• Do not apply an architectural coating with a VOC content in excess of the corresponding limit specified in COMAR 26.11.39.05*. Coatings of this nature include paints and other coatings that are applied to stationary structures, portable buildings at the site of installation, pavements, and curbs. Contact the Air Quality Program Manager, Leslie Churilla 301-757-4930 for assistance and additional information.

Contact the Air Quality Program Manager, Leslie Churilla 301-757-4930 for assistance and additional information. Additional information is provided below:

*RACM includes “a) friable asbestos material; b) Category I nonfriable ACM that has become friable; c) Category I nonfriable ACM that will be or has been subjected to sanding, grinding, cutting, or abrading; or d) Category II nonfriable ACM that has a high probability of becoming or has become crumbled, pulverized, or reduced to powder by the forces expected to act on the material in the course of demolition or renovation operations…” [40 CFR 61.141] NOTE: The RACM need not be removed before demolition if it:

(1) Is a Category I non-friable ACM that is not friable.

(2) Is on a facility component that is encased in concrete or other similarly hard material and is adequately wet whenever exposed during demolition.

(3) Was not accessible for testing and therefore was not discovered until after demolition began and, as a result of the demolition, cannot be safely removed. If not removed for safety reasons, the exposed RACM and any asbestos- contaminated debris must be treated as asbestos-containing waste material and kept adequately wet at all times until disposed of.
