About this file
This document is a user manual and installation guide for a Mobile Shelter Systems (MSS) NG3 mobile shelter, specifically a 40' x 60' x 14'1" (12.2m x 18.3m x 4.5m) structure designed for use in Hawaii. The comprehensive manual provides detailed, step-by-step instructions for assembling the hall-style shelter, including:
The installation process involves multiple stages: mounting trusses on the ground, installing wind columns, lifting and connecting trusses with purlins, driving ground anchors, adding support tubes and wires, rolling out and tensioning the canvas, and installing canvas doors. The shelter uses a modular design with specific components like roof purlins, support tubes, canvas tensioning assemblies, and door tubes. The manual includes precise measurements, bolt specifications, and diagrams to guide the installation process, with particular attention to proper alignment, tensioning, and securing of structural elements and canvas components.

MOUNTING THE HALL 300290 - Hawaii
User Manual / Installation Guide
On the rest of the pages of this manual we go through details and tips for mounting the hall. The steps are illustrated by pictures taken from similar halls and drawings and visualizations from the 3d-model.
The way of mounting can be done in more ways - but the following steps will hopefully be a nice guide.
You might need to go back and forth in the manual every now and then, conferring to measures, parts and so on from earlier in the manual.

FIX WIND WIND COLUMNS TO GABLE TRUSS
On smaller halls like this, you can fix the wind columns to the gable truss before you erect it all togeheter - but the wind columns can also be connected after the truss is up.
The wind column is fixed to the bottom string of the truss -through pre made holes - with a column bracket.
There are numerous holes in the truss - make sure to use the correct ones (measurements in chapter 05).
Bolts bracket to truss:
M12 x 100 with washer on nut side.
Bolt bracket to wind column:
M16x75 with washer on nut side.
Make sure the bolt head is facing the outside of the hall (nothing should protrude outside of the hall as it will damage the canvas).

Diagonal Support Assembly
DESCRIPTION PROJECT NR. / SPECTRA NR.
April 2015
SO 300290
The diagonal supports are fixed to the truss with a bolt and to the ground by a ground anchor. You might want to pre drill part of the patch in the ground. Give it som angle.
The ground anchor is driven down using a sledge hammer.
GROUND ANCHOR (measurements in mm) All footplates of the hall (trusses and diagonals) are fixed to the ground using ground anchors. The anchors in trusses footplates should be put down after more of the hall is mounted (to be able to do minor adjustments to the placement and alignment if needed). More about this later in manual.
The diagonal can be taken away when the hall is completely mounted - and must be taken away if the correspondant opening in canvas is to be used. (here there will also be wires interfering. They can be removed when opening is in use - but should be present when not.

The ground anchors should be driven down with an angel. It is wise to pre drill a hole in the ground. Both to set the direction of the anchor and to make it easier to drive it down when using the slegde hammer.
Try to get the anchor as far down a possible.
If you can’t get i down to the top plate of the anchor - but you are satisfied with how far down you got it - you can hammer/bend the rest of the anchor flat to the ground.
User Manual / Installation Guide 17 Complete purlins, add support tubes and wires Add the last purlins and continue with support tubes (to support canvas and to walk/climb on) and wires in end sections.

This hall got one part to cover the whole length of the hall.
The canvas in this picture is only 8 meter long, covering two section and unfolds rolling from the middle in both directions. Therefore it’s placed on the middle truss.
Canvas rolling/unfolding Before you start rolling/unfolding the canvas - secure the end of the canvas to the upper string/chord of the gable truss.
User Manual / Installation Guide 19 Pull the canvas down the walls When the canvas is rolled out along the whole hall, secure also the secound end towards the gable truss before you start pulling the canvas down along the roof and walls.
User Manual / Installation Guide 20 Tension the canvas The canvas roof is now in place and it is time to fix and tension.
The canvas is fixed with rope and/or bands through eyelets and with tubes through pocekts.

User Manual / Installation Guide 25 Preparing canvas doors All doors use the same priciple. They hang from a tube that will be fixed to the steel structure and have aluminium tubes inserted for stiffness and to operate up and down by ropes going through the aluminium tubes and an eye nut or block connected on the top of the suspension beam.
These suspension beams have the same shape as the canvas tensioning tubes from an ealier chapter - but in addition to oval holes at the ends they have holes for bolts with eye nuts.
Slide in all tubes - make sure to use the appropriate lengths and holes facing up/down. Line up the holes so that they are visible through the cut-outs in the pockets.
If the cut-outs in the pockets don’t match the holes in inserted beams - you might be using the wrong beams. If right beam is used and cut-out still don’t match, the cut-out can be adjusted/ added with a knife/pair of scissors.
Length of the different beams/tubes:
DOOR TYPE 1 (285cm) Suspension tube: 3008 mm / 118.4 inches Aluminium tube: 2800 mm / 110 inches
DOOR TYPE 2 (265 cm) Suspension tube: 3008 mm / 118.4 inches Aluminium tube: 2800 mm / 110 inches
DOOR TYPE 3 (484 cm) Suspension tube: 5000 mm / 197 inches Aluminium tube: 4780 mm / 188 inches
DOOR TYPE 4 and 5 (283 cm) Suspension tube: 2990 mm / 117.7 inches Aluminium tube: 2775 mm / 109 inches
Add a bolt and eye nut in the suspension beam, M12x100 with washer on BOLT HEAD side.
User Manual / Installation Guide 26 Installing canvas doors
PLACING THE DOORS IN THE HALL
After the beams are inserted it’s time to install the doors in the hall. Lift the door/suspension beam and place it in correspondant opening. Fix the beam with M16 x 110.
ADDING ROPES TO LIFT THE DOORS
The simpler solution is to thread the rope through holes in aluminium beams and directly through the eye nut.
(visualized in this manual for simplification)
But, we have added blocks to this delivery. You can connect them to the eye nut - and let the rope go through the block instead of the eye nut. Under the bottom aluminium beam, a large washer - Ø 18mm, together with a tied knot will fix the rope.
User Manual / Installation Guide
The TYPE 3 door is as wide as 484cm and the tube it hangs from is strenghtend by a suspension wire using the same eye nut as mentioned in earlier chapter.

LIFTING THE DOORS
Pull ropes in both ends of the doors to lift the door.
(using the blocks - not only the eye nut makes this smoother and will be more gentle on the rope).
When door is raised to the needed height, the rope can be tied to the truss leg. We have added a simple hook that can be used.
CLOSING/OPENING THE DOORS
The doors have a closing system called Bonetti.
The Bonetti closes and opens from the inside of the hall.
If you close all openings you use the zipper opening in door type 4 to get in and out.
File details come from the government source that posted it. Updated .
