PARAGRAPH / SECTION NO: _7.2.6
TITLE: Refrigerant Valves Replace
QUESTION:
From OEM Johnson Controls:
Per Chapter 516, 516-8.8.7.2 General Notes for Brazing.
e. The temperature required for brazed joints will cause oxidation within the tubing. The scale or other products of this oxidation may be removed by the refrigerant flow after the system is in operation. The oxide can break up into a fine powder to contaminate the lubricant in the compressor and to plug the strainer and driers. To prevent this, provide an inert atmosphere within the tube being brazed. This can be done by purging dry nitro-gen gas through the tubing during the brazing operation.
For 7.2.6, if we follow the above, then this can be omitted.
Could contractor omit the requirement for 7.2.6 if we conduct brazing in accordance with Para E, above?
7.2.6 Accomplish a Flush of the Refrigerant System for refrigeration plant by temporarily connecting a contractor furnished flush rig to the Refrigerant System. Provide and install jumper hoses, adapters with hose fittings to tie flushing rig into system, clean refrigerant flushing rig and ten micron filter, (Muslin) bags.
7.2.6.1 Perform a refrigerant flush until a clean muslin bag is obtained (zero metallic particles) to the satisfaction of the MSCREP.
7.2.6.2 Upon completion of the flush, remove the flushing rig and restore the Refrigerant System for refrigeration Plant using new hardware, gaskets.
ANSWER: KTR shall to provide CFR during execution to address above recommendation. MSC N7 will review and response accordingly.

TITLE: RESCUE BOAT AND DAVIT SERVICE (5 YR)
QUESTION:
From Allied Systems Service Rep.
We received your RFQ for WI 0654 for the Frank Cable. Just to let you know, we recently (just last month) replaced a davit on the ship with a brand new one (davit arm only from pedestal up). This davit would not need the 5 year inspection like the starboard side would. Our recommendation would be to quote a 0653 WI for filter changes etc. for the new davit and do a 0654 WI on the port davit which is more in depth. This would get the davits on the same schedule as of next year so there would be no offset.
Please reach out to the ship and see if this is acceptable to them.
Please advise.
ANSWER: Regardless of recent servicing, OEM shall accomplish as per WI 0654.
