REQUEST FOR SPECIFICATION CLARIFICATION
RFC __016_
NAME OF CONTRACTOR: _______________________________________________
SPECIFICATION ITEM NO.: _____905_____________
PARAGRAPH / SECTION NO:_______7.2.6_______
TITLE: ______PROPELLER SYSTEM MAINTENANCE__________
QUESTION:
Paragraph 7.2.6 requires “minor repairs” to propeller blades and describes minor repair as 8 inches long by 2 inches wide. The paragraph further states to assume (5) of the repairs per blade. This requirement becomes (40) repairs or a total of 640 square inches of repairs and would be considered significant damages versus minor repairs. We have never seen damage of that scale on a propeller that didn’t require replacement as well as extensive investigation into possible shaft, coupling, seal and bearing damage. Additionally, the price to deal with each of these repairs as a standalone effort and then multiply that effort by (40) becomes cost prohibitive. We request MSC consider a more practical approach to possible propeller repairs?
ANSWER: The requirement is for minor repairs like micro cracks and small divits the item should read three (3) each 4” x 2” repairs per propeller blade meaning welding a 4” x 2” area for repairs
