USNS BIG HORN (T-AO 198)
REQUEST FOR SPECIFICATION CLARIFICATION
RFC # 027
NAME OF CONTRACTOR: _______________________________________________
SPECIFICATION ITEM NO.: ___003__________________
PARAGRAPH / SECTION NO:_____N/A_______________
TITLE: __Approach, Berth and Mooring Requirements____________________
QUESTION:
Drawing 801-6580648 (Reference 2.1.3) clearly shows that the vessel has a hinged mast as shown on Sheet 7 F1/3. Shipcheck vessel does not have a hinged mast.
Please confirm that the USNS Big Horn has a hinged mast capable of being lowered to reduce the air draft.
What is the maximium height of the vessel above base line for the purpose of calculation of air draft?
In the interest of competition, if the USNS Big Horn does not have a hinged mast, is the government agreeable with a change in vessel arrival draft/trim and a reduction in air draft requirements along the transit route to allow entry to the contractors facility?
ANSWER:
The USNS BIG HORN does not have a hinged mast capable of being lowered.
The maximum height above baseline is 174’ 7”. Please see drawing 6580167, Rev D – TAO-198 Capacity Plan for reference available in AMRDEC.
The minimum air draft requirement for all overhead obstructions is 10 feet.
