USNS JOHN LENTHALL (TAO-189)
REQUEST FOR SPECIFICATION CLARIFICATION
NAME OF CONTRACTOR:
SPECIFICATION ITEM NO.:
PARAGRAPH / SECTION NO:
entire item
TITLE: MAIN DECK STEEL REPLACEMENT
QUESTION:
1.
Despite the reduction in scope in amendment 3 we still do not believe this work can be accomplished in the 43 days allotted for this project. Although the steel work has been reduced, there is still an enormous amount of interference, wrapping and protecting to deal with. In addition, work item 415, added by amendment, involves work on the steering gear which will be inaccessible under protective cover during most of the steel and insulation work. This has the effect of increasing the overall timeline because the two items cannot be accomplished at the same time. We have attached a revised schedule indicating the time we believe will be required, even working on an expedited basis.
2.
We hereby request that the government reconsider the performance period for this availability.
ANSWER:
MSC Thanks you for your request for clarification and the information that you have provide.
MSC is issuing Item 109 REV. C which is reducing the scope of work and placing the steel repair over the Bosn Store Room and the Nixie Room this will reduce the amount of cover up that will need to be accomplished and not interfere with Item 415. MSC can not extend the performance period for the vessel during the MTA.
MSC believe that with the location change that this item should be able to be accomplished in the allowed time period.
