USNS JOHN LENTHALL (TAO-189)
REQUEST FOR SPECIFICATION CLARIFICATION
NAME OF CONTRACTOR:
SPECIFICATION ITEM NO.:
PARAGRAPH / SECTION NO:
entire item
TITLE: MAIN DECK STEEL REPLACEMENT
QUESTION:
1.
We have carefully reviewed the scope of work in this item and believe that the enormous amount of interference, the extensive wrapping and other protection required and the large area involved make it impossible to complete this work in the time allotted for this availability. We have compiled an aggressive detailed schedule of the work involved and believe that this work will require a minimum of ninety (90) days to complete. Please refer to the enclosed schedule. We request that the period of performance be extended to at least ninety (90) days.
2.
The item specifies that all steel must be cropped using only a plasma cutter (paras 5.8 and 7.1.8.1). Due to the extremely high temperatures generated by the process we believe this will cause significant and extensive damage to the internals and result in a greatly increased scope of work and an increase in duration to complete the work. We request that the requirement to crop steel with a plasma cutter be deleted. New steel can still be cut with a plasma cutter as this will not damage the internals.
ANSWER:
MSC Acknowledges your concerns and is going to reduce the Scope of work. Please see Item 109B attached.
