About this file
This is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) document amendment addressing contractor inquiries regarding specifications for two separate renovation projects at Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Keyport: Building 206 Lab Upgrade and Building 233 Breakroom Renovation.
For Building 206, the government confirmed that existing VCT flooring beneath lab cabinets does not require asbestos abatement unless disturbed during removal and reinstallation, which must comply with applicable asbestos regulations. The epoxy floor coating specification requires integrated seamless cove base (minimum 4-inch) around all cabinets with Otto fuel rating, with floor preparation per manufacturer specifications. The government confirmed that elevated backsplash on north and south work surfaces will be removed and fabricated for a continuous work surface. For Building 233, the government confirmed 18" x 18" LVT tile (not 12" x 24") with minimum 20 MIL PVC wear layer and 3mm thickness, exhaust fans with minimum 100 CFM and whisper quiet technology, stain grade solid plywood cabinets with soft-closing hinges and drawer slides, and 4-inch stainless steel pull handles. The government clarified that ADA door openers are not required, standard thickness solid surface countertops are acceptable with sink not requiring undermount installation, 16-gauge stainless steel undermount sinks with sound shields are not required, and upper and lower cabinet configuration should match existing conditions.
