About this file
This document is a Style Guide for the United States Naval Academy (USNA). It provides parameters for the implementation and application of the academy's graphic identity program, including approved primary colors, typography, crests, and brandmarks. The style guide outlines the proper use of the official USNA crest, alternate color versions, and unauthorized crest variations. It also includes templates for USNA PowerPoint presentations, specifying the preferred fonts and placement of the logo and signature. The document aims to ensure a consistent, professional visual identity for the academy's external communications.
The related federal contract opportunity is for the procurement of academic marketing materials in support of the USNA. The Department of the Navy, Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) intends to award a commercial firm-fixed-price, 100% Small Business set-aside contract using Simplified Acquisition Procedures. The requirement is described in the attached Statement of Work (SOW). This is a combined synopsis/solicitation for commercial supplies, and the announcement constitutes the only solicitation.

3 PURPOSE
As the undergraduate college of our country’s naval service, the Naval Academy prepares young men and women to become professional officers of competence, character, and compassion in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps.
The Naval Academy has a unique clarity of purpose, expressed in our mission:
“To develop midshipmen morally, mentally and physically and to imbue them with the highest ideals of duty, honor and loyalty in order to graduate leaders who are dedicated to a career of naval service and have potential for future development in mind and character to assume the highest responsibilities of command, citizenship and government.”
Graphic identity is an outward visual expression of an institution’s vision and mission. The Naval Academy’s graphic identity’s primary function is to support and reinforce the mission and the core values of the institution.
This style guide provides parameters for the implementation and application of the academy’s graphic identity program. By consistently applying the institutionally approved fonts, colors, crests and brandmarks throughout the academy’s external communications, a professional message consistent with the academy’s graphic identity will be conveyed to our national audience.

3 PRIMARY COLORS
NAVY BLUE
CMYK- 100, 90, 36, 36
RGB- 0, 37, 84 HEX-

GOLD
CMYK- 20, 30, 70, 15
RGB- 180, 151, 90
HEX- b4975a PMS P 11-13 U (approx.)
The Naval Academy’s colors are based on tradition. In 1892, navy blue and gold were designated as the school’s official colors.
This decision was made to discourage individual classes from adapting their own colors, and to encourage an esprit de corps at the academy.
Using the approved colors consistently in all command publications will strengthen the graphic identity system of the Naval Academy. By providing these guidelines and colors for all official print and web publications, the command will send a consistent message to academy audiences.
Today, ink colors are defined by the Pantone Matching System, (PMS) an industry standard, identifying each color by number.
In all Naval Academy public documents, the above navy blue and gold colors should be used.
If you need to build USNA approved colors in Photoshop, the appropriate color conversions are listed above.

The “Adobe Garamond Pro” typeface is the preferred primary font for titles and text in formal uses. “Segoe UI” is the preferred secondary font used to accompany the primary font for the sake of diversity of design and clarity. It may also be used on it’s own for less formal publications (posters, social media graphics, etc.)
The italic variations of all listed font weights are authorized for use when appropriate.

-2 3 Brandmark
The Naval Academy crest and the text “United States Naval Academy“ in the primary font “Adobe Garamond Pro” and “Annapolis”in the secondary font combined together create a visual brandmark for the institution. By using this combination consistently in the same font and image, the brandmark will convey an effective message to our audiences.

3 UNAUTHORIZED CRESTS
Do not use
The examples on this page show variations of the crest which are NOT to be used. They are out of proportion, lines are not drawn correctly, and the colors used are not the stipulated academy colors. Many variations of the crest have been created by outside individuals or entities and are not authorized for official use.
