1. In the SOW Section 3.0 Overview describes 3 of the antennas must fit the tapered cylinder configuration. But the description of quantities of antennas (straight circular versus tapered circular) required for delivery in each phase is unclear. Please clarify quantity of each type of antenna for each delivery phase: Preliminary, Critical and Final.
Response: The list of deliverables in the SOW Para 1.0 and Para 6.0 are correct. The deliverables and due dates are: 10 preliminary forward antennas 3 months after award, one pair of antennas (one forward antenna and one aft antenna) at a CDR 6 months after award, and three final pairs (three forward antennas and three aft antennas) 12 months after award. The forward antennas must fit in the straight cylinder section and the aft antennas must fit in the tapered cylinder section.
2. What material makes up the straight and tapered circular cylinders that will surround the circular side of each antenna? What is the back wall material residing at the rear of the antenna?
Response: It is anticipated that the forward and aft cylindrical sections will be manufactured from aluminum tubing with a 0.050 inch wall thickness but this is not a requirement as long as the cylinder does not exceed the outside diameter specifications. The back wall material will be a solid bulkhead of some metal (probably aluminum or copper) with a 2.92 mm compatible radio frequency coaxial feed-through in the center. As explained in the specification, the coaxial feed-through will be provided to the contractor no later than CDR. The hole patterns for any attachments to the bulkhead will need to be discussed with contractor and determined prior to
CDR.
3. In reference to the “associated mounting brackets or flanges” mentioned in para. 4.2.1.4 of the SOW, what region of the platform (cylinder) is available to host the mounting hardware?
More specifically, what part of the assembly is accessible for integration of the antennas?
Response: As discussed in 2), the antennas will mount to the bulkhead (i.e., back wall), possibly using tapped holes in the bulkhead for attaching the antenna. The entire bulkhead is available for attachment except for the center that contains the 2.92 mm compatible connector.
4. In reference to section 3.0 Overview from the SOW, “a radome will be required to seal both forward and aft ends of the cylinder”. Does NRL’s integration plan for the antenna with the host cylinder include a sealant or gasket? Does the cylinder include a lip for the antenna to push against to complete the seal?
Response: The contractor must devise a means to rigidly attach the radome to the end of the cylinder. The use of the word “sealed” in the overview can be interpreted as “rigidly attached” in this case.
5. If a capable NRL facility is identified to provide the antenna testing, can this be provided as government furnished in our cost estimates?
Response: As described in the SOW, the deliverables must include measured antenna patterns to be provided by the contractor.
Solicitation Number: N00173‐17‐R‐GB01 Amendment 0001
6. Does NRL want the contractor to conduct high power testing of the antennas?
Response: The contractor must provide measured data that indicates performance relative to the requirements of the specification.
