QUESTIONS & ANSWERS - 2
Question #1: First, the model shows the thickness of the laminate throughout the part to be 0.125", but considering the ply layup scheme with the core added, and considering the extra plys of material around the 2.50" edges of the part, the actual thickness of the fairing would be approx. 0.250" in the core areas and around 0.350" around edges. We just wanted to confirm that the 3D CAD model did not include detail features for core and the extra material around the 2.50" edges of the fairing. It appears that the 3D CAD model is only used to establish the surface geometry on the tool‐side surface of the part.
Answer Question #1: Edge band (laminate) thickness will be dependent on the ply material used. The layup details are not provided in the solid model. See the drawing for the layup details.
Question #2: Another question relates to the core material used, would it be possible for this sample part, to use either a 0.125" thick foam core material or a 0.250" thick foam core material as alternate to the 0.200" thick core material? We are only asking this because the 0.125" and 0.250" material are standard items and do not require special order or special processing.
Answer Question #2: 0.20" thick core was intentionally chosen to demonstrate the ability to obtain or process foam thickness to a custom size.
Question #3: Our other question relates to film adhesive, drawing note 2 states that film adhesive is not required, but can we use film adhesive if needed? Is use of film adhesive optional in this case?
Answer Question #3: Although film adhesive is not required, it may be used if the vendor chooses to do so for this part.
