About this file

This document is a response to questions regarding Request for Quote (RFQ) No. MG-05222024 for SR PTL Vacuum Chambers issued by the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), a Department of Energy facility.

The key details are:

  • LBNL seeks to procure vacuum chambers and is willing to consider minor deviations to the specified tolerance levels on a case-by-case basis. However, a global tolerance of +/- 1.5mm will not be acceptable.
  • The RFQ documents include the RFQ instructions, a sample subcontract, Statement of Work, and other standard procurement forms.
  • The RFQ will be released on 05/22/2024 with quotes due by 06/20/2024. Responses should be submitted via email or electronic file sharing to the designated LBNL point of contact.

LBNL Response to Questions 05 Re: LBNL RFQ MG-05222024 – 06/04/2024

1. For the final WELDMENTS, is LBNL willing to except deviations to the tolerances noted on the final drawing? For the most part – there are tolerances of +/- 0.1-0.2mm, which would cause a lot of work to achieve that kind of accuracy during the manufacturing process as it’s currently designed. Some of the shells for these parts are thin (4mm, ~0.16”), and will move during weld, and potentially after bakeout. Would LBNL accept +/- 1.5mm (+/-0.030”), which is a more standard tolerance for weldments.?

LBNL Response: The tolerance applied to the weldment drawing reflects the general proximity of the chambers to internal requirements and external constraints. Deviations from the specified tolerances will need to be considered on a case-by-case basis. A global tolerance of +/- 1.5mm will not be acceptable.
