About this file
This is a materials list and construction specification document for the City of Long Beach related to cathodic protection (CP) system upgrades. The project requires five primary upgrade components: installation of a new anode groundbed, relocation of an existing rectifier and cabinet, installation of an anode panel, extension of structure connections, and provision of new AC power infrastructure. The new anode groundbed requires 10 high-silicon cast iron anodes with HALAR cable, 10 anode centralizers, 180 bags of SC-3 backfill, 10 lengths of 2-inch PVC vent pipe, 8 lengths of 2-inch PVC solid pipe, and one flush traffic box with cast iron lid labeled "ANODE." The anode panel installation requires one 10-inch by 12-inch panel board with 10 circuits and 0.001 ohm shunts, plus 5 feet of #4 AWG THHN positive cable. The structure connection extension requires one flush traffic box labeled "CP TEST," 100 feet of #4 AWG HMWPE negative cable, one 3M splice kit with resin, and 4 lengths of 2-inch PVC solid pipe. New AC power installation requires 100 feet of AC power cable per city requirements and 6 lengths of 2-inch PVC solid pipe.
Prior to commencing work, contractors must obtain a City of Long Beach encroachment permit, well permit, temporary water hydrant permit, city electrical build permit, and must mark and call dig alerts at least 48 hours in advance. The rectifier and cabinet relocation requires materials as needed based on site-specific conditions. AC power cable specifications are to be determined by the electrical engineer and approved by both the City of Long Beach and the applicable power company, indicating that final power infrastructure requirements are subject to regulatory and utility approval.
