Spectrum Manager:
Description for the function of the system or subsystem. Printed in block "5. Purpose of System" on 1494 NTIA General page and in block "6
Spectrum Manager:
A description of the total amount of time a system/equipment is expected to be in operation. 1. Peacetime: Enter the number of hours per day and days per week a system/equipment is expected to be in use.
2. Wartime: For weapons systems and wartime-oriented systems, provide some idea as to the number of hours of operation per mission. If intermittent, provide information including expected number of hours of operation per day or other appropriate time period; scheduling capability, and any conditions governing times of intermittent use.
3. Training: Most systems/equipments (wartime systems included) have some use in a training role that also should be listed in this field. Printed in block "6. Extent of Use" on 1494 DoD General page.
Spectrum Manager:
Enter the number of units operating in the same environment. (For a fixed microwave radio, this will usually be two units: the transmitting and receiving stations. For a radar, there may be only one radar in that radars coverage area. In the case of a base police radio net, there may be dozens of "walkie-talkies" within reception range of each other. Since the number of systems operating may vary, a normal or a maximum value could be given.) Allowed Characters: 0123456789 Printed in block "9. Number of Units Operating Simultaneously in the Same Environment" on 1494 DoD General page
Spectrum Manager:
The total number of units planned for the stage of review requested. Allowed Characters: 0123456789 Printed in block "12. Number of Units" on 1494 NTIA General page
Spectrum Manager:

Conducted Undesired Emissions are those undesired signals generated in the receiver and leaving the receiver by way of the receiving transmission line.
Spectrum Manager:
The bandwidth curve of the RF Selectivity should be greater than or equal to the bandwidthe curve of the received signal. If this is not the case, information will be lost because of the inability of the receiver to accept the entire signal. The significant types of preselection employed must be entered in line 11d (1494). Possible entries are "waveguide cutoff, YIG filter, 6-pole Butterworth filter", etc.
There is a minimum acceptable signal power level, and there is a threshold power level. RF signal power between the threshold and the sensitvity will be detected but will be demodulated as noise. Ideally, the criterion should be the difference between these two levels after all receiver processing. It should take the form of a signal-to-noise (S/N) or a signal-plus-noise-plus-distortion to noise-plus-distortion ratio (SINAD) and be measured in decibels. This is not always feasible. Quite often, the criterion used in data systems is an acceptable bit-error rate (BER) or certain probabilty of successfule reply. Other acceptable criteria include "Minimum Discernible Signal (MDS)" and "Automatic Gain Control (AGC) response".

Antenna Scan Type AntennaScanTypeID
360 Degrees Rotating - An antenna scan where the Antenna follows a circular pattern through mechanical means. The rotation is typically continuous and may be in the horizontal or vertical plane. 1
Bi-directional Sector - An antenna motion characteristic that scans in two directions. The scan starts at an azimuth or elevation of zero and scans to an azimuth or elevation in a positive or negative direction equal to the sector size. It then restarts scanning at an elevation or azimuth of zero 2
Conical - Conical scanning involves "moving" the antenna beam slightly off center from the antenna's midline, and then rotating it. As an example, an antenna that generates a beam of 2 degrees width – fairly typical – conical scanning radar might move the beam 1.5 degrees to one side of the centerline by offsetting the feed slightly. The resulting pattern, at any one instant in time, covers the midline of the antenna for about 0.5 degrees, and 1.5 degrees to the side. By spinning the feed horn or sampling multiple feed horns, the pattern becomes a cone centered on the midline, extending 3 degrees to the sides in our example. 3
Electronic Scan 360 Deg - An antenna scan where the Antenna follows a circular pattern. The antenna typically does not physically move the scan is developed by sampling in a predetermined sequence a group of antenna elements, usually a network of dipoles or horns. The scan rotation is usually continuous and may be in the horizontal or vertical plane. 4
Electronic Scan Sector - An antenna scan where the Antenna scan is through a predetermined angular region. The antenna typically does not physically move the scan is developed by sampling in a predetermined sequence a group of antenna elements, usually a network of dipoles or horns. 5
Fixed - The antenna is fixed in position and does not provide a physical or electronic scan. 6
Fixed - 3 Axis Stabilized - An antenna motion characteristic where the antenna is stabilized against pitching, turning and rolling motions of the platform on which it is mounted. The antenna is intended to rotate in azimuth about a stabilized vertical axis and it is mounted on a rotatable member which rotates about an unstabilized axis, which is fixed relative to the platform. Linear actuators link the antenna to the rotatable member with the lengths of the actuators being adjusted so as to maintain the vertical axis of the antenna as it rotates. 7
Helical - A scan method that uses a continuous two-dimensional scan comprising a circular scan in azimuth superimposed on a slower linear scan in elevation. 8
Lobing - A scan method typically used for radar to improve tracking accuracy. It uses two slightly separated antenna elements to send the beam slightly too either side of the midline of the antenna, sampling between the two to determine which one provides the stronger return, thereby indicating which direction the antenna should be moved in order to point directly at the target. 9
Manual - An antenna scan where the motion or the positioning of the antenna is controlled by the hand or hands rather than by an electrical or electronic device. 10
Mechanically Steerable - An antenna scan where the course or movement of the antenna horizontal or vertical direction is provided by physical motion of the antenna unit. 11
Other 18
Palmer Raster - A scan comprising a higher rate conical scan superimposed upon a slower rate true raster scan. 12
Raster - A two-dimensional scan in azimuth and elevation defined as a slow circular scan in azimuth with a faster unidirectional superimposed elevation sector scan. 13
Sector Scan - An antenna scan where the Antenna motion is through a predetermined angular region. 14
Spiral - A scan method using a two dimensional scan in azimuth and elevation. From the perspective of the receiving platform, the envelope of the spiral scan appears similar to a conical scan in azimuth combined with a lower frequency (scan frequency) conical scan in elevation. 15
Tracker - An antenna scan whose scan pattern is determined by the “target(s)” that it is monitoring. 16
Unidirectional Sector - An antenna motion characteristic that scans in a singular direction. The scan starts at an azimuth or elevation of zero and scans to an azimuth or elevation equal to the sector size. It then restarts scanning at an elevation or azimuth of zero. 17 per usec per ms per second per minute per hour per day per week yes no millimeter (mm)
