About this file
This document is a contact and reference guide for American Indian tribal consultations at Hill Air Force Base, prepared by Anya Kitterman, the Archaeologist and Cultural Resources Program Manager. The document identifies 22 American Indian tribes that were determined through a National Park Service ethnographic study to have ancestral territories on Hill Air Force Base managed properties. These tribes include the Blackfeet Tribe, Navajo Nation, Hopi Tribe, various Shoshone bands, Paiute tribes, Ute tribes, Crow Tribe of Montana, Northern Arapaho Tribe, and Pueblo of Zuni, among others. One tribe, the Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes of the Flathead Reservation, is noted as being deferred to other consulting American Indian tribes.
The document also identifies four additional tribes added to the consulting roster following subsequent consultations and an expansion of the Military Operations Area: Duckwater Shoshone Tribe of the Duckwater Reservation, Ely Shoshone Tribe, Wells Band of Western Shoshone, and Montana Little Shell Chippewa Tribe. Contact information is provided for Anya Kitterman at anya.kitterman@us.af.mil or 801-586-2464 for coordination and consultation matters related to cultural resources and American Indian tribal engagement at the base.
