With the exception of second floor end panels, all component colors must match and all materials must be powder coated steel. The LRC requests all metal components be shaded a off-white color similar to Demco's "artic white."
2nd Floor Shelving
Cantilever, double-faced flat steel shelving measuring 84" high and with shelves 10" deep. 14 shelves per unit. The unit base may exceed the shelf depth by up to 1." For example, please see Demco item WF14173240.
The LRC requires 121 shelving units for this floor, which shall be organized into 17 discrete lengths of shelves.
3rd Floor Shelving
Cantilever, double-faced flat steel shelving measuring 90" high and with shelves 12" deep. 14 shelves per unit. The unit base may exceed the shelf depth by up to 1." For example, please see Demco item WF14174640.
The LRC requires 45 shelving units on this floor, which shall be organized into discrete lengths of shelves.
Canopies
Each type of unit shall require a steel canopy top that fits the double-faced unit in a width of 20" deep for 2nd floor shelving and 24" deep for 3rd floor shelving. Examples are Demco product
WF14123540 and WF14124040, respectively.
Endpanels
All rows of shelves shall require an end panel.
The second floor end panels should be wood end panels with raised design and a finished look.
The panels should be finished with catalyzed lacquer finish to resist scrapes, stains and UV discoloration. Panels may add 1” to the overall shelving height and depth. The LRC requests a
Light or Natural Oak finish similar to Demco item WF20550200. 34 end panels (i.e. 17 pairs) will be required on the second floor
For third floor shelves, the 90" high, 24" deep steel end panel in the standard style is requested.
10 end panels (i.e. 5 pairs) are estimated to be required for the third floor.
Re-shelving the collection
The third floor of the LRC currently contains approximately 23,000 items representing general collection books and the library’s history collection, intermixed. Both collections will be moved to the second floor and placed on the newly installed metal shelving. The vendor will extract the history items and shelve them separately from the current medical collection.
At the conclusion, the second floor will contain no wooden shelving, new metal shelving, and three discrete collections of materials. The westernmost collection will be the LRC’s history collection, the central collection, the LRC’s History Collection, and the easternmost wall will have the LRC’s collection of periodicals.
Third Floor logistics
The vendor will remove all wooden shelving and place them in a location specified by the university’s property division, either to a dumpster or to a location on the ground floor of the
University. Once the the LRC’s third floor is cleared of shelving, new shelving must be installed, however, a hiatus must occur before installation can begin to allow for construction of a new archives space. This hiatus may last 12 - 24 months. At the conclusion of construction, USUHS will inform the contractor that the space is prepared and shelving may be installed.
