Solicitation Number: HSCG85-13-R-PO1531:

Gyrocompass Questions and Answers:

Q: The specification in section 3.0 says to replace the Mk 27 gyrocompass system, Sperry P/N

1884068. That part number is for the MK27 Mod 1 master compass only. The entire gyro system consists of the master gyro, the transmission unit, gyro repeaters, and several other components shown on the reference drawings. Was it the intention of the Coast Guard to replace only the master compass and retain the existing transmission unit and repeaters, replace the master compass and transmission unit and retain the repeaters, or replace all components?

Section 3.3 shows that there should be two RS422 serial inputs and three serial outputs. If it is the intention to retain the existing transmission unit there will be at least one synchro output required. If it is the intention to replace the transmission unit and retain the existing repeaters and keep the synchro outputs to the repeaters, radars, etc. there will be several synchro outputs required. Can you detail if synchro putput capability is still required, and list the number of outputs and the ratio (1:1, 36:1, or 360:1), and confirm the reference voltage and frequency of the output required.

A: The USCG is only replacing the gyrocompass as listed in the specification.

We will not be retaining the existing transmission unit. The existing synchro repeaters are to be replaced with digital input repeaters eliminating the need for the synchro outputs. Their replacement is being handled separately from the gyrocompass solicitation.
