QUESTION:

Work Item 11: PROPELLERS, REMOVE, INSPECT AND REINSTALL, Page 52, Section 3.3.4 – “fabricate and install a new type 316L stainless steel hex head propeller nut and a hex head slotted nut, as shown on MLCA SKETCH 24500D-803-SK. Provide an appropriately sized type 316L stainless steel cotter pin to be inserted through the shaft and slotted nut. This sketch was not provided to our knowledge. Please provide. Secondly, the drawing presently calls for a combination fairwater cap and nut which is a casting. Should we reuse this fairwater cap/nut? The propeller end of the shaft is not drilled for a cotter pin as per the drawing. Do we drill the ends of the shaft? If so, what size? Please clarify.

RESPONSE:

1. Requested drawing is attached.

2. Yes, you should assume that you will reuse the fairwater cap/nut.

3. Assume the shaft is already drilled for the proper cotter pin hole.

MLCA SKETCH 24500D_803_SK, Propeller Hex Head Slotted Nut

(The propeller hex head nut is similar in design; however, it has no slots)
