ARSC ENGINEERING SPECIFICATION 13081.9 18 Jan 96

Subj: USCG Aircraft Paint Removal Processes For Various NDI Techniques

1. PURPOSE.

The USCG conducts a variety of non destructive tests (NDI) on aeronautical components and structures. Historically, plastic media blasting (PMB) has been used to remove paint from surfaces before NDI is performed. The problem is that PMB has a tendency to hide or seal latent defects from some NDI tests. The intent of this instruction is to define the prop-er stripping process required for various NDI Techniques applied on each USCG aircraft.
