Highlight of Unaccompanied Children Program Services
Peo p le Fo cu sed
❖ Children & Youth First We believe children & youth are our priority and must be centered in our work. Our decisions are driven by what is best for children & youth in our care. They deserve to be heard, respected, and have input on decisions that are made about their future.
❖ Safety & Well-Being We believe children & youth should be provided a safe environment where their physical, medical, mental health, and developmental needs are met while in our care. They deserve to feel physically and psychologically safe, healthy, and connected.
❖ Cultural Responsiveness We believe children, youth & families deserve to be treated with dignity, understanding, & respect in the context of their own histories, traditions, language, & culture. They are the experts of their own experiences, which have shaped them into who they are.
❖ Family & Healing We believe every child & youth has a family and other caring adults whether related biologically or by choice. Every child & youth in our care deserves to be with family or other caring adults in a safe placement. Children & youth are resilient and have strengths of their own. Preventing further harm & re-traumatization of children while in our care is critical to the child’s healing and development. We understand that how we treat those in our care now can have a positive impact on their long-term success.
❖ Strengths & Accountability We believe everyone has strengths. We must draw on the strengths, knowledge, and experiences of children & youth, staff, and our partners to create proactive solutions. We believe data-driven decision-making drives the best care possible and the timely unification of children & youth with their family/sponsor. On behalf of the children & youth in our care, we value system-wide and personal accountability in all that we do.
