Broward County, Florida, United States Federal Building, New Construction, Small Business Subcontracting Networking Session.

On Thursday, December 2, 2010, The United States General Services Administration (GSA) will conduct a Small Business Subcontracting Networking Session for prospective Small Business Subcontractors, for the bridging design/building (D/B) construction phase of the new United States Federal Building, Broward County, Florida. The Small Business Subcontracting Networking Session will be conducted from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at the Sheraton Fort Lauderdale Airport & Cruise Port Hotel located at 1825 Griffin Road Dania, FL 33004 - Telephone (954) 920-3500.

The new United States Federal Building is to be constructed in Broward County, FL and will consist of approximately 475,000 gross square feet (GSF) with parking, including 535 structured parking spaces and 500 outside parking spaces. Upon completion the new Federal Building will provide space for one federal agency. The magnitude of construction range is approximately $135 - $145 million for the design/build construction services.

The Small Business Subcontracting Networking Session is intended to affirm GSA’s recognition of the talent that exists in The Small Business Community and its commitment to opening a dialog between that community and the A|E firms that have been shortlisted for this project. The A|E firm that is selected for this project will be required to submit a Subcontracting Plan prior to contract award demonstrating a commitment to awarding (37%) of the total subcontracted dollars mutually agreed upon by the prospective awardee and the government within the following categories: Small Disadvantaged Businesses (including 8(a) – (6%;) Woman-Owned Small Businesses – (5%;) HubZone Buinesses (3%,) Veteran-Owned Businesses (5%),Service Disabled Veteran-Owned Businesses (3%), Other Small Businesses (15%). The subcontracting plan will not be mandatory, if the selected firm for award is a small business. However, this event is designed to help identify A|E resources in the local community for all the shortlisted firms. The publicized synopsis has stipulated a 35% level of effort to occur in the state of Florida.

Prospective Small Business Subcontractors will be given an opportunity to network with the shortlisted firms and to showcase their special talents and abilities as qualified subcontractors. Although it is anticipated that this Small Business Subcontracting Networking Session will assist the (shortlisted firms) in indentifying qualified subcontractors to meet the subcontracting goals listed above for this project, because GSA is not permitted by law to be a party to contractual relationships between potential Prime and Subcontractors, any contracts that may be entered into as a result of this Small Business Subcontracting Networking Session Day will be strictly private arrangements between the interested parties based on perceived ability and need.

Questions about this Small Business Subcontracting Networking Session should be directed to David Gibson, GSA’s Small Business Advocate, Telephone (404) 909-1297, E-Mail: DavidA.Gibson@GSA.GOV.
