About this file

This is an Insurance Requirements document for the City of Meriden, Connecticut, establishing mandatory coverage standards for contractors and vendors engaged in municipal contract work. The document specifies minimum insurance requirements that must be maintained throughout the contract term, with the City of Meriden named as an Additional Insured on a primary and non-contributory basis for all policies except Workers Compensation. Contractors must obtain original, completed Certificates of Insurance prior to contract issuance and provide replacement or renewal certificates at least 30 days before policy expiration dates. All insurance policies must be written with carriers approved in Connecticut and maintain a minimum AM Best's rating of "A-" VIII.

The insurance coverage requirements include General Liability of $1,000,000 to $2,000,000 depending on aggregate limits, Auto Liability of $1,000,000, and an Umbrella or Excess Liability policy covering each occurrence and general aggregate. Workers Compensation must meet statutory limits with Employers' Liability coverage of $1,000,000 for each accident, disease per employee, and policy limits. All policies must include a Waiver of Subrogation. For policies written on a Claims Made basis, continuous renewal is required for a minimum of two years following contract completion, or the expiring policy must be endorsed to extend the reporting period. Contractors must provide written notice of any policy cancellation, limit reduction, or coverage alteration within 30 days of such changes.
