About this file

This is an engineering drawing for the City of Meriden, Connecticut, related to underground storage tank (UST) removal and fuel system replacement at Fire Station Engine Co #2, located at 168 Chamberlain Highway. The project involves removal of an existing 3,000-gallon UST system and associated piping, with installation of a new UST, primary and spare supply and return piping in a secondary containment conduit system, and connection piping to boiler burners. The contractor must provide a containment sump and manhole, monitoring riser, and fill riser with spill containment manhole. Interior piping found in good condition may not require replacement and will be determined by the owner, though any piping designated for replacement shall include replacement of valves, fittings, filters, and associated equipment up to the burner apparatus. The contractor is responsible for removal and disposal of concrete pads beneath existing tanks and replacement with concrete anchor pads or deadman anchors. Where interior piping exists under building floors, the contractor must saw cut, remove floors, replace piping, and restore flooring.

The drawing notes indicate that the exact location of the existing UST and piping is assumed but unknown, and the proposed location of the new UST and appurtenances is approximate and subject to engineer adjustment. The contractor must obtain approval for on-site storage and laydown areas from the engineer. Provisions for temporary aboveground fuel storage of at least 275 gallons may be required at the owner's discretion and must be connected and operable to serve one boiler. The contractor is required to remove, store, and replace existing fuel volumes in tanks in accordance with project specifications and must manage all disturbed area restoration and seeding operations as part of the comprehensive tank removal plan.
