About this file

This is a Fence Specifications document for the PKAA, DRUM West Calamity Outlaw Project in Colorado. The project involves the construction and installation of a welded steel fence system to close adit 5898 A2, which is identified as a dangerous site with an overhang hazard. The fence closure requires approximately seventeen linear feet of steel fencing at eight feet high with a crown design, positioned a minimum of six feet from all edges of the adit. The contractor must provide all labor, materials, and appurtenances necessary for installation, including material inspection upon site arrival and proper storage to prevent damage, weather exposure, vandalism, and theft.

The fence construction specifications require structural steel components conforming to ASTM A36 and ASTM A500/A513 standards, including 0.5"x0.5"x4' pickets spaced at six-inch centers, angle iron rails measuring 2"x2"x1/4", and 3"x3"x3/16" steel tubing posts. The completed fence must achieve a minimum height of ten feet above adjacent ground elevation with posts spaced six feet on center. All seams, rail and post joints, and picket-rail intersections shall be welded. Fence posts must be encased in concrete footings with minimum three-foot depth and one-foot diameter, or alternatively welded to pre-set post bases. The concrete must meet a minimum compressive strength of 3,500 psi at 28 days. A twenty-four-inch crown cap shall be welded to the top of each post at forty-five degrees to prevent water collection, with a maximum three-inch gap maintained between ground surface and the lowest picket height. Stress shall not be applied to concrete-set posts for at least twenty-four hours following concrete set.

Fence Specifications

5898 A2 will be closed with welded steel fence. 5898 A2 is an adit with a very dangerous overhang, The fence is to be set at a minimum of 6 feet from all edges of the adit. The closure requires approximately seventeen linear feet (17') of steel fencing, eight feet (8’') high with a crown to be constructed and installed per the following specifications:

The contractor shall provide all labor, materials and appurtenances necessary for installation of the welded steel fence system defined in this scope of work.

Upon receipt at the job site, all materials shall be checked to ensure that no damage occurred during shipping or handling. Materials shall be stored in such a manner to protect against damage, weather, vandalism and theft.

Materials

All materials shall be sound, new and free of decay and rust.

Structural Steel for fence panels and posts shall conform to the requirements of ASTM

A36, ASTM A500/A513.

Pickets shall be 0.5”x0.5”x4’. Pickets shall be spaced at 6” (center to center).

Rails shall be angle iron 2”x2”x1/4”.

Fence Post shall be 3”x3”x 3/16 steel tubing. Pickets, rails and posts shall be pre-cut to specified lengths.

Top Crown A twenty four inch (24”) post shall extend to a forty five (45°) degree angle from top of picket shall be cut and welded to the top of each post to prevent water from collecting in the post.

Concrete shall be used to encase the post where no competent rock is present.

Concrete shall have a minimum compressive strength of 3,500 psi at 28 days. Footings shall be 3’ deep and 1’ in diameter.

Fence Construction

The completed fences must be a minimum of ten feet (10') high, for the approximate length of seventeen feet (17').

The fences will be constructed utilizing the materials described above, with the posts spacing set six foot (6') on center and vertical picket spacing set six inches (6") on centers. Top and bottom rails will be placed eighteen inches (18”) below and above the top and bottom of pickets, respectively. Pickets, rails, and posts should be pre-cut to specified lengths to ensure a minimum picket top height of ten feet (10') above adjacent ground elevation. All rail and posts shall be joined by welding all seams eighteen inches (18") from the top and bottom of the posts. All picket and rail intersections shall also be joined by welding at all margins. A cap will be cut and welded on all sides to the top of each post to prevent water from collecting in the post. A maximum gap of three inches (3”) will be maintained at all times from ground surface to lowest picket height.

Fence post shall be spaced every six feet on center and be encased in concrete to a minimum depth of three feet (3') and minimum one foot (1') diameter or welded to a pre-set post base. The posts base shall be 3.5”x3.5”x1/4” plate welded to three foot (3’) long #4 rebar in a one foot (1’) diameter concrete footing. The bottom six inches (6”) of the rebar must be bent to 90 degrees. Stress shall not be applied to posts set in concrete for a period of at least 24 hours following the development of a firm set of the concrete. Exceptions on footing depth and diameter may be made where bedrock is encountered. Backfill, either earth or concrete, shall be crowned-up around post at the ground surface.
