2.0 Technology Focus Area/Area of Interest: Agile Manufacturing/Reverse Engineering Technology
As defined in the RSO CSO, the agile manufacturing TFA is described as: The RSO is working to identify, develop, transition, and scale AM technology for the advancement of the Sustainment enterprise. This will leverage mature, new, and emerging AM technology to reduce operation and sustainment costs and improve readiness.
This call is intended to solicit innovative solutions that address the AoI objectives listed below.
Objectives:
• Demonstrate a cutting edge automated 3-D scanning system capable of quickly and accurately scanning complex Additive Manufacturing candidate parts to produce 3-D models. The solution should address any anticipated hardware and software tools necessary to scan parts with complex geometry, various surface color and reflectivity, and provide a means to address part geometry that cannot typically be scanned; e.g. blind holes and internal/hidden geometry.
• The resulting solution should allow trained USAF users to create accurate 3-D models capable of being easily utilized, manipulated and/or modified for additive manufacturing purposes utilizing common commercially available CAD software. This innovative system should aim to provide a cost effective means for USAF users to generate 3-D model data.
• The innovative solution sought will be able to process scan data quickly and efficiently and require minimal human interaction during the scanning, modeling and data processing. The proposed solution should address its ability to fully operate and be able to be updated while not connected to an internet source. Additionally, it should be sized to accept, manipulate and process parts of at least 500mm in diameter, height of 1000mm and weight of at least 50 kilograms.
• Demonstrate a plan to transition and utilize the automated 3-D scanning system at various innovation centers across the Air Force and provide training to users at each location.
• Develop an online training course and written training manual to be utilized during virtual and/or in person training sessions.
• Team with the Air Force to provide live and/or virtual presentations of the innovative technology and its related data.
