Storage Aid System at Kirtland AFB, New Mexico Question Set #1

1. Q. Appendix A - Pallet Rack, are capacity labels required?

A: Capacity labels are required. The Cover PD has been updated to reflect this for all racking types.

2. Q. Appendix C – VLM -Appendix states power and fire suppression tie in locations are shown on drawing but I don't see them?

A: AF Drawing GKR401-01 has been updated to include these locations. Overall building diagram is also shown below for reference

3. Q. Appendix E & F - Turret and Order Picker Trucks-Appendix says a location for the chargers in on the drawing, is "lift parking" where they would go if required?

A: Yes, this is the location of the chargers. AF Drawing GKR401-01 has been updated to better denote this location.

4. Q. Appendix G - Support Equipment Bollards, can you confirm 43 bollards are required per the drawing?

A: 45 Bollards are required in total per AF Drawing GKR401-01

Q. Fence, are locks required for the pad lock lug on the gate? There is a personnel gate shown on the drawing but it’s hard to tell if this is an existing gate, or one we would be providing? The assumption is provided.

A: Locks are not required for the pad lock lugs, the government will provide them later. Correct, the personnel gate and double swing gate will both be provided as part of this contract.

Q. Pipe Rack-The drawing shows 1 pipe rack but the appendix calls for 4, is the drawing just depicting where the 4 will be located? The appendix also states "as shown on drawing" but there is nothing showing configuration of the pipe rack on the drawing other than placement.

A: Correct, the pipe rack location shown is conceptual in nature. Orientation of the 4 units in relation to one other has been better denoted on AF Drawing GKR401-01

5. Q. Is there a dock for loading/unloading at either building?

A: There are no docks at either building for loading or unloading.

Cover Purchase Description

6. Q. Is Building 291 an existing facility, new construction or a renovation? If there is construction or renovation, what is the completion date for the work?

A: Building 291 is an existing hanger having renovations done to convert it into the new base supply building. Completion of the renovation with access to the site will occur by 1 June 2026. Earlier access to the site is possible but not guaranteed due to the building work being done.

7. Q. Is there any existing equipment that will need to be removed prior to installation of new equipment? Will the entire space be available for staging and installation during the Period of Performance?

A: No existing equipment will need to be removed as part of this contract. The entire space will be available for staging and installation. Picture of the current state of the Building is included below:

8. Q. Please identify the location of the electrical box that will be used to supply power to the VLM’s on Drawing GKR401-01 and capacity available within the electrical box for the new equipment.

A: Updated AF Drawing GKR401-01 (Rev1) was included as part of the previous question set denoting the location of the electrical room

9. Q. Drawing GKR401-01 indicates two Roll-Up doors. Are these doors adjacent to a dock or is the access ground level?

A: Both roll-up doors will be at ground level, no dock currently exists

Appendix A Pallet Rack

10. Q. For Pallet Rack Type A, P and H, is the load pr level actually 6,000 lbs. or is the beam to be rated at 6,000 lbs. but the actual load that will be stored per level actually less.

A: Loads are not expected to exceed the designed weight capacities. AF Drawing GKR401-01 (Rev2) has updated the beam capacities for Types “A” and “H” to 1,100 pounds per level

Appendix D Vertical Lift Modules

11. Q. Different manufacturers’ pan sizes vary slightly. Will a +/-2” variation on width and depth be acceptable for the pan size?

A: Tray dimensions have been updated with a dimension range of +/- 2 inches to match the allowable range of the unit. Appendix D (Rev1) has been updated with this change.

12. Q. The design of certain VLM’s allows for a smaller footprint while offering the same capacity and pan sizes of other VLM’s. The unit dimensions in the requirements show a plus or minus of 2” as allowable variance on width and depth. If the tray dimension requirements are met, will a smaller overall machine depth (saving floor space) be acceptable?

A: Unit dimensions must meet the dimensional range as outlined in the specification.

13. Q. Designs of some VLM’s do not require anchoring based upon the physical location listed in the solicitation. If the VLM does not require anchoring per manufacturer’s instructions, is this acceptable?

A: Yes, if the proposed VLM meets the manufacturer’s recommended anchoring guidelines for Kirtland that will be acceptable.

14. Q. To protect operators, MHI industry safety standards require either an automatic door or light curtain at the access point to be active anytime the unit is in motion.

Belt driven systems generally use an automatic door to meet this standard since it helps protect the belts from damage. Chain driven systems generally use a light curtain that is active when the unit is in motion to meet the standard since they are not susceptible to damage from stops triggered by safeties. Is the light curtains active when the unit is in motion methos an acceptable substitute for the automatic door?

A: An automatic door shall be provided; a light curtain in lieu of it is not acceptable.

15. Q. Tray capacity is listed at 1100 pounds. Manufacturers also vary slightly in published capacities with some being more conservative than others. Is 1036 rated pounds per tray acceptable?

A: Tray capacity must meet the specified capacity of 1,100 pounds.

16. Q. What material is desired for the partitions and dividers?

A: No specific material is required, any industry standard material will be acceptable

Appendix H Installation of Existing Equipment

17. Q. What is the distance from Base Supply to Bldg.291. Is there a loading dock available in Base Supply?

A: Depending on the route taken, the distance between the two buildings is 1.5-2.0 miles. An overhead of the base with two possible routes are shown below.

18. Q. GKR401_01 – Could you please confirm that Pallet Rack Type “H” requires 6,000 lbs per beam level? A 66,000 lb. capacity at 18” spacing would require reinforced uprights that would not meet the aisle spacing.

A: AF Drawing GKR401-01 (Rev2) has updated the beam capacities for Types “A” and “H” to 1,100 pounds per level

19. Q. Appendix A 3.2.2. Uprights – The upright capacities are not shown on drawing

GKR401_01 as indicated in the spec.

A: AF Drawing GKR401-01 (Rev2) has been updated to show upright capacities

20. Q. The current unit dimensions requested are 110”+/-2” W x 120”+/-2” D. Would dimensions of 114.84”W x 127.8”D be acceptable? This is the smallest size one manufacturer has.

A: Unit dimensions must meet the dimensional range as outlined in the specification so this would not be acceptable.

Storage Aid System at Kirtland AFB, New Mexico Question Set #3

1. Q. What does the height of the fencing gate need to be? Only the 8' width is shown on the drawing.

A. AF Drawing GKR401-01 (Rev 3) has been updated to show the height of both gates.

2. Q. Are you looking to have the wire guidance installed in the floor, and line drivers installed? (This would include a line driver, the line itself, cutting, epoxy and installation. Power connections and drops) Or, has the system itself been installed ahead of time and you’re only needing the associated machines?

A. The entire wire guidance will need to be installed alongside the machines. No existing wire guidance system is currently within the building.

3. Q. Is the “embedded rail” in the drawing already existing in the middle of each aisle? Or, is that detailing where they would want the wire ran? (If there is an existing embedded rail is in the center of each aisle, wire guidance may not be possible as the wire needs to be installed directly in the center of the aisle)

A. No existing rail/wire guidance is present. The drawing is just to show the approximate location of where the provided rail will be installed as part of this project.

4. Q. Where in the building would they like the line drivers installed? Typically, it is at the end of one of the aisles.

A. No specified location is required for the drivers as long as it does not interfere with the operation of the vehicles or access to the racking or other sections of the warehouse.

5. Q. Some manufacturers and installation services do not install chargers for a wire guidance system. There are options to wire a plug to it if you can provide a drop and the appropriate NEMA plug style. Would this be an acceptable solution?

A. This would be an acceptable solution to power the wire guidance.

6. Q. Is there a set date for a site visit on this project?

A. No date is scheduled for a site visit. If access to the site is desired, bidders can reach out to Christine Schneider (505) 846-0065 to arrange a visit.
