Q&A #4: 4 Jun 13

Questions:

1. What size non-volatile memory do you require?

2. Is there a preferred operating system to be delivered with the PAD

3. Does the Government own the software used on the PAD?

4. Does the Government have any requirements for the connectors on the PAD?

Answers:

1. Only what is required for the operating system and resident software, plus 100% spare for growth, as defined in paragraph 3.2.10 of the Specification.

2. Not on the Government side. The vendor can use what he’s most familiar with, as long as it’s not proprietary.

3. The vendor is required to supply an operating system, an application, and an API for the USAF to modify the one provided and develop the Government’s own applications. The Government should own the rights to all software written specifically for the PAD.

4. To minimize the modifications to COTS equipment, we (the Government) deliberately left the connectors undefined, both in the PAD spec and in our mating aircraft harness. The Government would prefer MIL-SPEC circular connectors, and feel that a militarized COTS display will have those connectors already.
