High Speed Tensile Tester Questions and Answers
1. In 3.2 (Load Train)(Hydraulic Lifts and Locks), states that the pressure vessel must be raised and locked hydraulically. Does this mean the locking mechanism must be hydraulic? Or only the raising/lowering mechanism?
A: The locking mechanism does not need to be hydraulic.
2. In 3.2, the laser extensometer data rate is specified at 1 KHz. Common commercially available systems that are rated to ASTM E82, Class B1, are typically 100Hz or lower update rate. Is this specification based on a known commercially available instrument, or based on the testing requirements?
A: 100 Hz is not fast enough for the testing, 1kHz is ideal but 200Hz would be the minimum acceptable. Fiedler Optoelektronik GmbH manufactures a laser extensometer capable of 200Hz; others should be able to do the same.
