NREMT Paramedic Certification
SUBJECT: Questions regarding 350-mile radius requirement
1. Is there any wiggle room on the 350-mile radius location requirement? -- May the training be located outside of the 350 mile radius of San Antonio?
a. No. The purpose of the 350-mile radius requirement is so the CORs and AFMOA staff responsible for this contract can be within a day’s drive of the training facility to reduce travel costs and ensure accessibility. The Air Force considers 350 miles to be the maximum it wants its personnel to drive per day.
b. The purpose of the travel is for course kickoff meetings with the students, ensuring the students are conducting themselves according to military standards, and to prevent or resolve any issues with students performance that may arise. Being within one day’s driving distance enhances the ability of Air Force supervisory staff, on an as needed basis, to oversee program and the oversee Air Force students in the program. Travel exceeding 350 miles would require additional travel time or would require flying. The flexibility of AFMOA supervisory staff to reach their students via car enhances oversight of the training program and the Air Force students in the program.
2. Could CORs located at another military installation meet the necessary COR oversight?
a. No. The CORs for this contract and AFMOA staff responsible for the conduct of the Air Force students in the program require direct oversight themselves over the program and their students. Handing over the COR role of the contract and supervision of their Air Force students to another installation is not viable.
