About this file
RFI #3 Air Compressors is a Request for Information document dated March 24, 2026, addressing technical clarifications and specifications for a two air compressor and receiver tank procurement at Westover Air Force Base (Solicitation FA660626Q0008). The document presents vendor questions regarding electrical requirements, filtration systems, equipment specifications, and piping materials, along with corresponding government responses clarifying the requirements.
Key technical clarifications addressed include: electrical power specifications requiring confirmation of available amperage for a 240v, 3-phase delta system with 2 AWG wires and a 230v, 1-phase dryer system; filter specifications mandating 232 psi maximum rated filters rather than the originally specified 125 psi maximum filters, with filters required both before and after the air dryer per drawings and specifications; tank configuration requiring wet tanks to act as water separators before the dryer rather than cyclone filters; compressor drive type clarification that direct drive rotary screw compressors are acceptable rather than the specified gear drive units (which Kaeser does not manufacture in the required size); piping material requirements specifying brazed copper piping with proper connections and prohibiting steel pipe; and pressure gauge isolation valve requirements mandating the inclusion of isolation valves between gauges and the pressure source, as required for federal installations despite potential conflicts with Massachusetts code. The RFI response deadline was March 23, 2026, with quote submissions due by March 31, 2026, following updated technical requirements released March 16, 2026.

Text version
24 March 2026, RFI #3 Power is 240v, 3-phase delta with 4 AWG wires.
- AS25 230v requires 2awg wire
- This would require new power from the supply to the compressor; confirmation is needed that they have enough amperage available.
· The breakers for the existing compressors are 100 amp each.
- Their existing dryer is 115v
- The new dryer sized for both, meets the CFM requirement and is "230v/1ph"
- Need to know if they have enough amperage available.
1. The existing panel has space available. (See picture)
- They want to run 145 psi from the compressors to the tank inlet. I can get you a 25 HP at 102 cfm at 160 psi and set the controller pressure to 145 psi
- They specify filters with a 125-psi max rating, these won't work. I will provide 232 psi max filters; 125 psi max is too low and 232 psi is standard
1. OK.
- They are calling for particulate and oil filters prior to dryer
- Particulate should be after tank, oil should be after dryer
1. We require filters both before and after the air dryer. Follow drawings and specifications.
- Cyclone filters are needed on both compressors before the dryer to act as water separators when using a dry tank. Wet tanks act as the separator when placed before the dryer. Can I provide a wet tank instead, given the current setup?
1. Follow the drawings and specifications.
- They require soldered type L copper
- Copper for compressed air should be brazed
1. The requirement is for copper pipes with proper connections. Steel pipe is not allowed.
- Calls for gear drive compressors
- Kaeser doesn't make gear drive units in this size range (either belt driven rotary screw) recommended as you get more air) or direct driven rotary screws)
1. Direct drive would be acceptable.
- Calls for pressure gauges with a valve between the gauge and source
- This is against Mass. code, if applicable to this location.
1. Westover is a Federal Installation. The isolation valves at the gauges are required.
