b. Remove self-locking nut (6), two flat washers (2), four shim washers (12), pulleys (5), and cap screw (3) from outer beam weldment (1). Retain hardware for reuse.

u. Page 2-5, Paragraph 2.4.3.2, Step e, of the basic commercial manual, is amended to read as follows:

e. Install cap screw (3) through outer beam weldment (1), two flat washers (2), four shim washers (12), and two pulleys (5).

v. Page 2-6, Figure 2-2, of the basic commercial manual, is amended to replace graphic as shown in Figure 3 on page 16 of this supplement.

w. Page 2-8, Paragraph 2.5, of the basic commercial manual, is amended to read as follows:

2.5 LOAD AND PROOF TESTING.

Periodic load and proof testing of the bootstrap beam and saddle set is required to ensure serviceability and safe operation. New bootstrap beam and saddle sets are supplied with a manufacturer load test certification. Recurrent load testing shall be accomplished annually or within twelve months after last load or proof testing. Proof testing shall be conducted when either of the following conditions occur:

• When the item is repaired – welded, for example.

• When a component on the item is replaced that does not have a load test certification, or the component cannot be proof tested separately. (For example, if a shackle is replaced, and the new shackle comes with a load test certificate, no new proof test is required.)

Load and proof testing of the forward beam and saddle adapter shall be accomplished using the C-5M Bootstrap Beam and Saddle Set Test Fixture, P/ N 4S80081-101A. Load and proof testing of the aft beam shall be accomplished using the Aft Fixture, P/N 4S80081-129A. Using activities must maintain a record of support equipment initial receipt and use dates for items that require load or proof testing and inspection.

x. Page 2-8, following Paragraph 2.5, of the basic commercial manual, is amended to add Paragraph 2.5.1 and Paragraph 2.5.2, to read as follows:

2.5.1 LOAD TEST PROCEDURES.

NOTE

The forward beam and saddle adapter attach to the test fixture the same way that they attach to the pylon quadrapod during engine removal and installation.

The aft beam attaches to the aft fixture the same way that it attaches to the pylon during engine removal and installation.

• Do not attempt to load test the forward beam assembly and saddle adapter with other than the specified test fixture, P/N 4S80081-101A. Failure to comply may result in injury to personnel and or damage to equipment.

• The bootstrap beam and saddle set test fixture must be anchored to structure capable of withstanding applied loads. Failure to comply may result in injury to personnel and or damage to equipment.

Load testing shall be accomplished using the C-5M Bootstrap Beam and Saddle Set Test Fixture, P/N 4S80081-101A and the Aft Fixture, P/N 4S80081-129A.The load test shall be accomplished annually (or within twelve months after last load or proof testing) as part of the annual bootstrap beam and saddle set inspection criteria. Using activities must maintain a record in accordance with local requirements.

Perform load test as follows (see Figure 2-4):

a. As applicable, attach forward beam and saddle adapter or aft beam to the required test fixture in accordance with TO 1C-5M-2-4JG-1-3.

NOTE

The forward beam and saddle adapter shall be load tested three times using the three different load configurations shown in Figure 2-4.

b. Apply load and maintain load application for a minimum of three minutes.

c. Remove load and perform a visual inspection of entire bootstrap beam and saddle set.

Any evidence of permanent deformation, cracks, or breakage of any kind of any component during or after application of load shall be cause to reject the item being tested until discrepancies are corrected and load testing is successfully completed.

d. As applicable, remove forward beam and saddle adapter or aft beam from test fixture in accordance with TO 1C-5M-2-4JG-1-4.

2.5.2 PROOF TEST PROCEDURES.
