SECTION AC1

SCOPE OF PROJECT AND APPLICABLE CONDITIONS

AC1-01 SCOPE OF PROJECT: The scope of this project is to mitigate potential sources of contamination and thereby reduce the risk of potential infiltration of impacted storm water runoff and wastewater to the underground or groundwater.

Located on the east side of the North Maintenance Area, in the north-eastern part of Area F at Aviano Air Base, project area covers a total surface of about 32,400 sq.m, mostly paved (area showed on Drawing C-1).

The land surface is nearly flat, with an elevation of approximately 164 m above sea level. Activities in the North Maintenance Area include vehicle parking, washing, and maintenance operations. A hazardous waste accumulation point is also present. The following main facilities are included in Area D: Facility 1010 - Base’s main vehicle maintenance shop;

Facility 1046 - Power Production/Barrier Maintenance; Facility 1036 -

Heavy Equipment Horizontal and wide thruway/parking area southwest of

Facility; Facility 1032 - HAZMART and Facility 1035 - Hazardous Material

Storage BSE.

The precipitation runoff on this area either flows to the edge of the pavement or is channeled by storm drains to one of the several dry wells

(DWs) in the area. The following SW drainage systems are currently in place:

- SW runoff from the paved areas surrounding Facility 1010 is collected through four drainage systems and discharged into DWs

(ODw1-Dw2-Dw3-Dw4) after pre-treatment through existing Oil Water

Separators (Ows1-Ows2 Ows3 and Ows4. Roof drain are collected and discharged in existing drainage fields Df1 and Df2.

- SW drainage system on the west side of Building 1036 collects SW runoff from the surrounding paved areas and discharges into four large DWs (Dw5-Dw6-Dw7-Dw8) in the main parking area without any pre-treatment. Roof drain are collected and discharged ito existing drainage field Df3.

- SW runoff from the paved areas surrounding Facility 1046 is collected through two drainage systems discharging into a Dw, after pre-treatment through an existing Ows and into a septic tank.

- SW runoff from the paved areas between Buildings 1032 and 1035 is collected by three different SW drainage systems and discharged into four DWs (Dw11-Dw12-Dw13-Dw14)

Project activities shall generally consist in the installation of a new unique storm drainage network, installation of two new Oil Water

Separators, the connection of the new drainage system to the new OWS and the installation of a Drainage Fields (DF)located in the grassy area near

Facility 1023. The existing Dry Wells and OWS systems shall be removed.

Work to be performed includes but is not limited to the following items:

a. Demolition and removal

- Cut of bituminous concrete pavements and soil excavation up to existing oil water separator system foundation level;

- Demolition and removal of existing oil water separator system;

- Removal of existing storm drainage inspection pits;

- Trench excavation for the installation of new drainage system pipelines and pits

- Cut, removal and capping of underground drainage and waste piping not more utilized;

ASHE 13-1020 AC1 2

- Earth excavation for new OWSs and DF installation

- All demolished items shall be removed and disposed to authorized public dump site.

- All other items of work as indicated on drawings and Schedule of Work Items.

b. Civil Work

- Furniture and installation of prefabricated oil water separator systems with double containment wall and leakage detection system, including storm chamber manhole and inspection pits;

- Furniture and installation of heavy PVC drainage pipes and connections to existing drainage lines;

- Backfilling and compaction of excavated trenches

- Furnishing and installation of prefabricated reinforced concrete pit, with D400 class cast-iron cover or grate.

- Subsurface infiltration system (Drainage fields).

- Restoration of bituminous concrete pavements affected by the demolition and excavation works;

- Repair/Reroute of existing utility lines as necessary;

- Restoration of turf and paved areas damaged during the works.
