About this file

This document is a technical memorandum from the 496th ABS Squadron at Morón Air Base addressing two specific questions about window specifications for a base supply enclosure renovation project (QUUG 25-1009) in Building 402. The memorandum provides clarifications on two key technical requirements:

  1. Blast Resistance Certification: The windows must comply with the Certificate for Blast Resistance of Building, but will be installed according to the manufacturer's recommendations rather than the specific installation method initially proposed. 2. Window Surface Specifications: The windows require an anodic coating with a minimum thickness of 15 microns, with the actual color being brown (MARS 2525 SABLÉ, similar to RAL 8002 or dark Bronze anodized Oxicobre) instead of the originally assumed grey. The document is signed by Alberto Menéndez, a Technical Architect, and is dated August 2025, indicating an ongoing construction or renovation project for the U.S. Air Force at Morón Air Base.

DEPARTMENT OF THE AIR FORCE

496TH ABS SQUADRON (USAFE)

MORÓN AIR BASE

August 2025

MEMORANDUM FOR 496 ABS/PK

FROM: 496 ABS/CEN

SUBJECT: QUUG 25-1009 RPR Base Supply Enclosure & Windows, B402

1. Question #1. Paragraph 2.13 CERTIFICATION of section 08 51 13.00 20 (page 63 of 81) indicates that the windows must comply with Certificate for Blast Resistance of Building. In order to comply with this certification, it will be necessary to install a steel subframe anchored to the floor slab and to the window head. This would involve partial demolition of the affected area of the façade and its subsequent installation, which is not in the construction details of drawing AE501. Please confirm that windows must comply with this certificate.

Answer #1 The windows must comply with the Certificate for Blast Resistance of Building.

They should be installed according to the manufacturer’s recommendation, which is not necessarily the one described in the question.

2. Question #2 According to paragraph 2.8. (08 51 13.00 20 – 4, page 62 of 81), the finish on aluminum surfaces shall be an anodic coating with a minimum thickness of 15 microns and the color shall be as color of windows of Bldg. 202 which we believe to be grey. Please confirm the finish and the color.

Answer #2 The definition is correct. Anodizing creates an aluminum oxide layer over the profile, improving corrosion protection and abrasion resistance.

The windows of building 202 are not grey, they are brown, specifically the color named by the commercial house of said windows is MARS 2525 SABLÉ similar to RAL 8002 or dark Bronce anodized Oxicobre
