About this file

This is a Request for Information (RFI) and Reply document dated September 8, 2026, addressing the acceptability of incorporating a Casing Option into a drill rig design.

The RFI poses the question of whether a Casing Hammer option—specifically a casing advancement system tolling package—would be acceptable for integration into a drill rig. The casing advancement system is a tooling package that enables simultaneous drilling and casing advancement operations. The document outlines significant design implications resulting from this addition, including changes to unit weight and dimensions, requirement for full engineering review and design modifications, and necessary verification that the modified drill rig could meet transportation requirements for C-17 or C-5 aircraft. Visual examples of the casing hammer package installation and a hydraulically-driven casing advancement system (R2000 model) are provided, along with technical specifications including National Stock Number 3820-01-544-16589, Product Service Code 3820, Claimant Program Code C9E, and a Firm Fixed Price arrangement.

The customer's response to this inquiry is that the Casing Option would NOT be acceptable for incorporation into the drill rig design.

8 Sep 2026 Question

Is what shall hence forth be referred to as the Casing Option acceptable?

The Casing Hammer option.. The recommendation is for a casing advancement system, which is a tolling package.

How this would impact Drill Rig design.

• Changes the weight

• Dimensions of the unit

• Require full engineering review and changes to the design

• A full review would need to be done to ensure this drill rig could meet the requirements to be transported in a C-17 or C-5

Here is an example of a Casing Hammer Package, so you can see how it is installed in the derrick of the drill rig. This picture shows the major component and not the full assembly.

The recommendation is a CASING ADVANCEMENT System, this tooling package would allow one the ability to drill and advance casing at the same time.

See an example in the picture above.

Answer:

The customer has responded this would NOT be acceptable.
