Vendor Name:

Pre-Solicitation FTQW 20-1011 Project: High Speed Overhead Doors Date:

ITEM # Questions Government Response Response Date

EXAMPLE EX:

Contract schedule of 225 days may not allow for “summer” only installation. As required in some locations like the coal handling bldgs. Can the project comple on date be extended to 365 days to allow for manufacturing and shipment of product while maintaining a summertime installation at all locations?

The period of performance can be amended to fit the current site conditions upon award.

Is there any detail for new flashing and structure that will be required because of the change from a standard OHD sectional railing system to high speed fabric door railing system?

The structure and flashing needs to be engineered, must match the current facility, and be installed to door manufacture requirements.

3 Who will be responsible for any existing damage to openings?

If the damage prevents good operation on the door or prevents a good seal the contractor should repair. If it doesn’t affect the door leave as is.

Firestation#1 To ensure temperature in the building stays suitable at ‐40 below temperatures. Would sectional doors with a high speed opener capable of 24” per second be an acceptable alternative to a non insulated high performance door?

No, the non insulated high performance door (what is currently installed at the snow barn) should be used.

5 SBR rubber is specified will an NBR Rubber curtain be accepted as equal? No

There is no specification section for the doors to be replaced at Fire station #3. Please provide specs for these doors. Station 3 was not part of this project… the current doors are 5 years old

7 Firestation#3 will 24" per second min speed be acceptable for Sectional doors? Station 3 was not part of this project

Would another walkthrough be permitted after questions are answered and scope has been defined? We are fine with another visit. It just needs to be coordinated.

If COE certified, will the on‐site Superintendent be allowed to function as SSHO and CQC? No, CQC and SSHO must be two separate positions.

10 Is the first sheet of the drawings existing conditions of the doors? No, the first page of the drawings is only the types of doors currently in place.

For fire station 2, is the contractor required to move the equipment mounted between the doors or will the Govt move it?

Contractor will be responsible for the proper coordination, removal and re‐install of any equipment in the way of the door maintenance.

For Fire Station 2, the fire suppression lines are braced off the door track. Does the Govt want these mounted back to the new track? Yes

For the thaw shed, work is to be done during summer months. What is the rail car schedule that prevents the contractor from working on this building?

The rail car schedule will require workers to vacate the facility from 7:00 am through 12:00 noon

Sheet 1 of drawings shows thaw shed electrical capacity is 115V/.75hp. Is this stating the existing OH door is 115V? On walkthrough, it looked like 230V. It is currently 115V and will need to be changed to 230v

15 Are all four doors of the thaw shed class 2/div 1? Yes

17 Can all four doors on the Snow barn be available at the same time for the replacement?

all 4 doors can be available at one time, however; access through the two large doors must be clear for vehicle operations.

18 What does the ‘high’ condition mean on sheet 1 of the drawings, for Jacks house? High use

Can the Government confirm that only the CHPP Thaw Shed is Class 2 Div 1, and that the ash shed, fire stations, jack’s house, and snow barn are not classified areas?

Fire stations and snow barn are not classified.

The Statement of Work indicates that the two existing doors at Fire Station #1 are to be replaced with high speed fabric overhead doors. The Statement of Work also indicates that the three existing doors at Fire Station #2 are to be replaced with high speed metal overhead doors. Can you please confirm that different door types are, in fact, needed at each station?

The statement is true. High speed metal for station 2 and high speed fabric for station 1

The Statement of Work indicates that existing Doors 6203‐3 & 6203‐4 at the CH&PP Thaw Shed are located in a Class II, Division 1, Group F area. However, this is not noted for Doors 6203‐5 & 6203‐6 which are in the same CH&PP Thaw Shed. Can you please confirm if this is correct or if the new doors supplied for all four openings will need to be suitable for mounting within a Class II, Division 1, Group F area?

all 4 doors are Class II, Division 1, Group F area

ITEM # Questions Government Response Response Date

The Statement of Work indicates that existing Doors 6203‐3 & 6203‐4 at the CH&PP Thaw Shed are located in a Class II, Division 1, Group F area. Therefore, the new doors supplied for these openings will need to have explosion proof components suitable for mounting the door within this area but the basis‐of design Rytec Powerhouse is not available with this type of components. Rytec does have different high‐speed fabric doors models that are available with the necessary explosion proof components and would be suitable for mounting within this environment. However, there is not enough room between the two openings to mount these doors side‐by‐side. Would it be acceptable to mount one large high‐speed fabric door over both openings and center column in lieu of two, smaller doors for each of the existing openings?

No, the doors must remain separate for operations.

Within the SOW there is no indication of the type of activation for opening and closing the doors. The doors come standard with a wall mounted control panel but each building has its own unique use. Do any of the facilities require remote control by way of transmitters or motion sensors. The snow barn Rytec doors currently in use have motion sensors. Please clarify if any specific facility requires additional activation other than the standard control; panel provided with each door.

Fire station 1 and 2 will require remote entry and safety stops (electronic eyes)

Opening prep: The side clearance on the Ash Shed Door 6203‐1 is currently limited on the side room required to install a high speed door. Will it be acceptable to lose 6‐8" of opening width to allow for a high speed door?

No, the existing opening must remain the same for train operations. Alternate mounting or opener methods will be considered to maintain sizes.

Opening prep: The concrete build‐up that is currently in place on the thaw shed doors #6203 5 & 6 to accommodate a high‐speed door will require a similar condition on the doors opposite 6203 3&4. Is there any specific guideline that needs to be followed for this reworking of the concrete as it interfaces with the railroad tracks?

Reference #3 response

Line 2.2.15,a of Spec Section 08 37 30 calls for an in‐line safety light curtain on the doors.

The basis‐of‐design manufacturer does not recommend a light curtain on these doors due to the application and environment the doors will be in. Instead the basis‐of‐design manufacturer recommends two thru‐beam safety photoeyes mounted at the jamb to detect objects that are in the opening ‐ photoeyes, not light curtains, are what are being used on the existing Rytec Powerhouse SD’s installed at Eielson AFB. Can you please confirm if supplying the doors with two thru‐beam safety photoeyes in lieu of the specified light curtain would be acceptable?

Safety photoeyes in lieu of light curtains will be acceptable where necessary.

28 For B1206 Fire Station 1 – can we verify that the three existing openers are three phase? The motors are three phase 120/208

For B4105 Snow Barn – Are the disconnects that are located next to each of the four openers fused and if so, what is the size of the fuse? 3 phase 230V with 3 10amp fuse

For B4870 Fire Station 2 ‐ Can we verify that the three existing openers are single phase 120v? The motors are run on 115/230 Single phase.

For B4870 Fire Station 2 ‐ Do the new openers need to integrate into the Monaco General Purpose Input Output (GPIO) box as the current ones?

All components should operate similar to the equipment replaced. Openers should integrate back in.

32 For B4870 Fire Station 2 ‐ Do we have to use IMC below a certain height?

No. There are no location specific codes requiring any required increases at a specific height

For BLDG 6203 CH&PP ‐ Could we verify that Door 6203‐1 is single phase 120v as per information given in the packet? There is a door operator box on the southeast wall with a single phase 230v label.

The motor is ran on 115/230 Single phase.

ITEM # Questions Government Response Response Date

One of the openings observed during the site visit appears to have a new(er) high‐speed door installed, and it appeared to have 3‐phase power run to a variable frequency drive which then ran the operator. Is this the standard for all doors in this contract (i.e.: are VFDs required)?

No, each facility has its own requirements for the doors.

Several of the doors and buildings do not have the minimum required side room to accommodate the door guide assemblies or in some cases the operator. Will the gov’t allow for opening remodel (reduced width) in order to provide the needed side room clearance?

No, the door openings must remain the same. Alternate openers can be bid to maintian door sizes.

Is each operator to be powered the same, i.e.: is each operator to be 3‐phase powered? No. Install operators to manufactures specifications (voltages WILL vary)

37 Do doors require remote control operation? All doors require remote control operations

RO sizes for doors that need to be relaced in Buildings 1206 and 4870? First page of drawings does not include RO’s for the (5) doors itemized in Statement of Work for these two buildings

All Architectural and Electrical as‐builts will be provided for all buildings

Has the phase/voltage included with the proposal documents (drawing #1 of 15) been verified to be accurate? Can the phase/voltage the remaining (5) garage doors be provided?

All Architectural and Electrical as‐builts will be provided for all buildings

40 Is the CHPP Thaw Shed the only hazardous location (Class 2, Div 1) for this project?

It is anticipated the CHPP Thaw Shed is Class 2 Div 1. Ash Shed must be dust proof

Are there Electrical and Architectural as‐builts available for each building in addition to the ones provided? Yes, they are available

Will a pre‐design APP need to be approved prior KTR design team is able to conduct pre‐ design site surveys and investigations? Yes, scheduled second site visit

Please confirm all Pre‐con submittals that will need to be approved before KTR design team can conduct pre‐design site investigations. (i.e. topo, in‐situ sampling, Hazmat sampling etc.)

The Contractor must receive a Notice to Receive from prior to performing any work or design.
