Question 1:
New crushers specified have a larger profile and will require moving floor openings including floor beams. Also redesigning chute profiles, effecting slopes and possibly flow of coal. Design loads for building are unknown therefore assumed to be outside the scope of engineering by contractor. Besides manufacturers recommendations for maintenance are there any other requirements for clearance for plant personnel or will it be a best fit situation in relation to other equipment that exists.
Answer 1:
General note 2 below details 2 and 3 sheet M2.3 notes requirements for accommodating and supporting new crushers that do not exactly fit the existing opening. The successful bidder is required to provide sealed drawings by a Registered Structural Engineer to accommodate any variances in support or floor openings for the new crushers. The Government will make available to the successful bidder, all available structural information on the existing building and support system.
Section 15800, 3.2, B requires the contractor to reconfigure coal chute sizes and construction to accommodate the new coal crusher inlet and outlet configurations.
