About this file
This document is an informational guide about the REAL ID Act requirements for identification at Shaw Air Force Base (AFB). The document details acceptable forms of identification for base access, noting that currently all states and territories are REAL ID compliant or have an extension until May 7, 2025. Identification must meet specific criteria, with certain driver's licenses and IDs requiring additional alternative forms of ID if they contain markings like "NOT FOR FEDERAL IDENTIFICATION" or similar limiting language.
The guide provides a comprehensive list of acceptable identification documents categorized into three groups: 1) Federally-issued Identification (including U.S. passports, military IDs, permanent resident cards, and various immigration documents), 2) State-issued Identification Cards (REAL ID compliant or extended driver's licenses), and 3) Other forms (such as Native American Tribal Photo ID and foreign government-issued passports). The document emphasizes checking the Department of Homeland Security website (https://www.dhs.gov/current-status-states-territories) for the most up-to-date information, as the implementation is an ongoing process.
