PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 INTRODUCTION

This Statement of Work (SOW) defines the requirements for construction services at March Air

Reserve Base, CA (MARB). The Contractor shall furnish the personnel, services, equipment, materials, facilities, and other requirements necessary for, or incidental to, the performance of work set forth herein.

1.2 PURPOSE

The purpose of this project is to complete repair maintenance construction activities on airfield cement and asphalt pavements in order to maintain their integrity and minimize the potential for

Foreign Object Damage (FOD) to aircraft.

1.3 EXISTING CONDITIONS

This project covers two areas on the MARB Airfield; Taxiway A and the Alert Fighter facility

(Figure 1).

Taxiway A parallels the airfield ramp areas and provides access to/from runway 32/14 for departing and arriving aircraft. The project area of Taxiway A has numerous surface issues including; longitudinal cracks, corner and edge spalls, pop-outs, shrinkage cracks, and failing or failed joint and crack seal. Concrete panels that make up the project area of Taxiway A and adjacent ramp areas are typically 25’ x 25’ x 17” portland cement concrete (PCC).

The Alert Fighter facility is located at the north end of the ramp area. The asphalt in this area provides access to/from the ramp for the aircraft located within the fenced Alert Fighter facility.

The major asphalt distresses in this area are longitudinal and transverse cracking and mild weathering. These distresses are creating an increased potential for FOD. Asphalt thickness in this area is typically 5 -1/2”.
