About this file

This document contains a series of questions and answers (Q&A) related to a federal contract for trailer-based communication and notification systems, likely for Dyess Air Force Base (AFB). Key details include requirements for JF12-compliant radios (with no specific brand preference), Conex/shipping containers to be retained by the government for aircraft loading, and speakers with 1600-2500 watts capable of covering outdoor environments. The trailers are intended to be mobile but will primarily stay at established base locations. The government has removed the previous Mil-Spec requirement for the trailers and is seeking a system with mass notification capabilities potentially covering a 5-20 mile radius. Specific siren coordinates are currently undefined, indicating the contract is in an early planning or specification stage.

1. For communication between the control station and trailers, does the Base require JF12 compliant radios?

a. If yes, is there a preference between Motorola’s APX4500 or APX6500 radios?

Yes they need to be JF12 compliant, there is no preference to any specific radio as long as it is JF12 compliant.

2. CLIN 003, does the Base intended on keeping the Conex/shipping containers or are they only for shipping the trailers from the manufacturer to Dyess AFB, TX?

The government intends on keeping the Conex / shipping containers to ease the process of loading up onto Aircraft as we move into theatre.

3. Does the trailer need to be Mil-Spec?

The requirement for Mil-Spec has been removed.

a. If so, would you be willing to work with us to get our trailer to mil spec?

4. The range that was called out did not specify if it was for sound coverage or radio communication.

Currently we do not have set range as we could be responsible for a 5 mile radius or a 20 mile radius. All we know is that we need stanchions to mass notify the base populace.

5. What wattage speaker are you looking for?

We are looking for wattage that could reach outside environments and potential loud noises, (I.e. flight line operations or other events) 1600 to 2500 Watts.

6. Are the trailers going to be staying in a specific location/area or moving from base to base?

Once we are established at a base the speakers will stay in those locations, though we could be tasked to moving to another base, hence the capability of them being mobile.

7. What are the coordinates for the sirens?

Those are currently undefined at this this time.
