About this file

This document is a Questions and Answers (Q&A) file for the Wing Conference Room SVTC Conduit Install federal contract opportunity (FA462625R0012). The Q&A provides critical technical details for a conduit installation project at Malmstrom Air Force Base, specifically in Building 500's Wing Conference Room. Key technical specifications include: conduit size is flexible and dependent on cable quantity, PVC or EMT conduit are acceptable, flexible metal conduit can be used for device connections, and junction boxes must be sealed by epoxying screws. The project involves installing conduit for a Secret Internet Protocol Router Network-capable (SIPRNet) Video Teleconferencing system, with the SVTC contractor responsible for pulling back existing cabling. Questions and Answers

Question # Question Answer 1 Is there any requirements for conduit size for this project? No requirement, size dependent on number of cables per conduit, i.e., 8 video cables vs. single audio cable.

2 What is the staging of materials going to be, is there room for a trailer in the parking lot? There is a side parking lot, or cul-de-sac at Bldg 500 entrance. Equipment can be kept inside Conference room also.

VTC service will be shut down during project.

3 Does the conduit have to follow the line diagram on attachment 1? Or can the cables be grouped in one conduit going around the room?

Conduit does not have to follow diagram. Diagram is a current representation of cable path. Cables can be grouped together. However, cables will have to be pulled back and re-routed through conduit by VTC contractor. Keep process in mind when installing said conduit.

It was discussed at the meeting that there is an existing conduit that leads up the wall from the data/comm cabinet flex connection into the ceiling space from the in the corner of the room. We can intercept that conduit and place a junction box in the ceiling space from where we can run the conduits out to the various devices. Is this a correct interpretation of existing conditions and acceptable scope?

Correct, should be flex conduit in the wall. A junction box will work if it can be sealed.

5 Per the site visit discussion, there is an existing 2” or 3” conduit that runs over the hard soffit in the center of the room to the AV display that can be utilized, is this correct?

There is a PVC conduit currently installed, approx. 4in above the false ceiling. As of now, the conduit stubs out behind the computer desk. If feasible, it can be utilized.

6 PVC conduit or EMT with compression fittings is acceptable? Either or, if it can be sealed, whether glued or compression fitting.

7 Pull stings are to be installed in conduit? Yes, install mule tape/pull string in conduit.

8 Conduit only, cabling is not part of this contract? Correct, conduit only.

9 Can flexible metal conduit be used to make final connections to the devices? This would enable a much cleaner install. Yes, that works for us.

10 Will the cabling be removed prior to our work beginning or should removal be included in our bid? SVTC contractor will pull cabling back and pull through installed conduit. Install pull string or mule tape is requested.

11 Junction boxes will be needed for the install. Are screw covers considered “sealed” & therefore acceptable? If not, what is the preferred method? Screws will need to be epoxied, to seal junction box.
