Child Development Center BAFB
AWUB 08-5008
MHSM #424.06
March 24, 2009
Attendees:
Nathan E. Tracer 2CES/CEPM nathan.tracer@barksdale.af.mil Kenn Babin MHSM Architects kbabin@mhsmarchitects.com Elizabeth Welch 2FSS/FSFC betsy.welch@barksdale.af.mil
1. Architect reviewed scheme 1, 1-A, 2, and 3. Discussed some of the pros and cons of each. At the end of the discussion the User and Base Architect agreed they preferred the direction that scheme 3 was headed in. Some of the features they liked were shorter Corridor, segregation of infants from older children. Potential for expansion and the potential to share play yard areas with existing toddler and pre-school age groups from the existing facility.
2. Another issue discussed was the force protection stand off zone. The Architect had interpreted the dimension to be 33’ for all separations but for drives, parking and streets the distance is actually 82 feet. This requirement will impact the site plan and parking layout. As shown on the Concept Drawing.
3. The kitchen should be located to provide space for expansion of the kitchen to double its programmed size.
4. The facility expansion should accommodate doubling of the size/capacity.
5. Internal Corridors should be 8’-0” wide.
6. Preschool rooms should include an island type table that is built in near the food prep area to allow 4-6 children to access the counter to learn cooking skills and as and activity for teaching.
7. Provide radiuses edge counter tops and cabinets that are exposed corners in the classrooms.
8. Nathan Tracer provided a layout for new playground starting construction at the preschool area. It was determined that the new play area could remain based on scheme 3 design.
9. Nathan Tracer gave links to website for accessing all UFC codes (website is www.wbdg.org) Anti terrorism UFC 4-010-01, Child Development Center UFC
4-740-14.
10. Use Representative, Betsy Welch, to forward publications to the design Architect.
Will need for kitchen and other areas that documents are not available to the public.
