Notation is shown in the description column of all such interchangeable parts.

d. The notation (Use only on (part number)) following description of a part number indicates that part is used only on part number indicated.

e. The notation (When exh, use ____ ) following description of a part number indicates an improved or redesigned part has been developed and replaced part is still authorized for continued use until stock is depleted.

5.2.2 Numerical Index. The Numerical Index provides a

list of part numbers cross-referenced to their related figure and index.

5.2.2.1 Part Number Column. This column gives all the

part numbers listed in the MPL arranged alphanumerically, including model and type numbers for components not assigned part numbers.

5.2.2.2 Figure and Index Number Column. This

column lists references to the appropriate figures and index numbers where the part numbers appear. When a part has not been assigned an index number, the figure and index number of the preceding part in the MPL is used with the letter F before the figure number, such as F5-2-2 (follows Figure 5-2, Index 2).

5.3 PARTS LISTED.

In general, assemblies and parts installed at the time the end item was manufactured are listed and identified in this manual.

5.4 SIMILAR ASSEMBLIES.

When two or more assemblies are made up principally of identical parts, they are listed together; the assemblies are given first, and detail parts follow. Parts common to all assemblies in the same quantity are listed once; those used in different quantities are listed once for each and are identified with the assembly to which each belongs. Peculiar parts are listed once and identified with the assembly to which they belong.

5.5 ATTACHING PARTS.

Attaching parts appear in the MPL immediately after the item to be attached and before any detail parts listed for that item. Attaching parts are captioned (AP) immediately after the description.

5.6 ABBREVIATIONS.

The abbreviations used in this illustrated parts breakdown are in accordance with those listed in Military Standard MIL-STD-12, except as follows:

Abbreviation Meaning

5.7 USABLE ON CODES.

The Maintenance Parts List may contain letter codes that are used when the applicability of a part is limited to a given portion of the articles covered by the breakdown. The absence of a code indicates that the parts are usable on all articles covered by the IPB.

5.8 SMR CODE.

The codes in this column are assigned in accordance with AFI 21-206. Definitions of applicable SMR codes are set forth in TO 00-25-195.

5.9 PARTS STANDARDIZATION.

Parts Standardization. Authority for use of a part number different than the part number listed in this IPB is established by the Department of Defense (DoD) Interchangeability and Substitution (I&S) Program. Refer to the DO43B Master Item Identification Base for Air Force I&S information. The maintenance technician has final responsibility and authority for determining acceptability of substitute parts.
