GATES OVERVIEW (extracted from the GATES PWS): GATES is developed and maintained by the United States Air Force (USAF) Air Mobility Command (AMC). GATES originally replaced legacy systems supporting the AMC transportation mission with a modernized, fully integrated and significantly enhanced global transportation system using an open systems infrastructure and a shared relational database. In January 2006, United States Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) directed GATES to integrate the Defense Courier Service (DCS) functionality into the program. In April 2006, USTRANSCOM directed the integration of the United States Army’s Surface Deployment and Distribution Command’s Worldwide Port System (WPS) into GATES. GATES is now a joint port management system supporting Defense Transportation System (DTS) and Distribution Process Owner (DPO) migration strategies. GATES development includes, but is not limited to, meeting DTS architecture.
