About this file
This Statement of Work (SOW) details the requirements for installing a central air compressor at Travis AFB's KC-46 Maintenance Training System (MTS) facility. The project calls for a Champion model HPL20-12 20HP 120 Gallon Air Compressor or equivalent, with an air dryer/water separator, to be installed in Room 122 of Building 167. The system must provide compressed air support for multiple training devices across nine different drops in various rooms, with a maximum pressure of 175 PSI and continuous flow of at least 75 SCFM.
Key specifications include using copper type L or K piping with brazed fittings, a looped air distribution system to prevent pressure drops, and installation of vibration damping feet/springs. The electrical conduit will be routed to Panel M1 in Electrical Room 137, with a primary voltage of 480/277V. The installation must conform to ASME Standard EA-4-2008 and California Administrative Code Title 8, with specific requirements for pipe sizing, labeling, and positioning. A post-award conference will be held within 30 days of contract award to ensure the installation plan meets all specified requirements.

KC‐46 MAINTENANCE TRAINING SYSTEM (MTS) Travis AFB Air Compressor for AHTD Support
Statement of Work (SOW)
Description:
Provide and install one central air compressor with air dryer/water separator in conformance with ASME Standard EA-4-2008 and conforming with California Administrative Code Title 8 to support facility compressed air use for the Advanced Hardware Training Devices (AHTDs) operation and maintenance.
This system is to be installed in Room 122, Mechanical Room, of Building 167 (Travis KC-46 Regional Maintenance Training Facility) to support training and trainer maintenance activities continuously. This compressor will be the central supply device to power a multi-drop, on-demand compressed air system to support stand-by, intermittent and continuous compressed air use.
As use of these training devices is in a state of flux as the aircraft system they support is modified, the system is sized for flexibility. It must support potential future training and maintenance demands over a planned 50-year life, and those demands are assumed in this document. Assumed pressure, flow and power targets are defined to provide support for reliable service.
A compressor used at McConnell AFB (MOB 1) KC-46 MTS schoolhouse is offered as the standard to be duplicated or matched. The installation location must provide for feeding a network of air lines to supply 9 drops. One drop each are required for:
3 FDATs (Room 128) 1 FCT (Room 123) 1 EAPUT (Room 134; wall shared with Room 132) 1 LGT (Room 132; wall shared with Room 134) 1 ART (Room 135) Depot Room (Room 128) Mechanical Room (Room 122/Compressor location).
The compressor will be equivalent to the 20 HP compressor used for MOB1, to provide up to 77 SCFM total at 175 PSI.
Post Award Conference/Planning Meeting will take place on site at Building 167 no later than 30 days after contract award to ensure installation plan meets requirements. Establishment of this meeting date will provide for no less than 2 weeks' notice to accommodate for travel planning of out-of-state attendees.
Specifications:
Compressor: Champion model HPL20-12 Pressure Lubricated 20HP 120 Gallon Air Compressor Unit or equivalent.
An air dryer / water separator is a requirement.
Vibration damping feet/springs between the compressor and the floor will be installed and a 12–24-inch flexible hose fitting from compressor to fixed metal pipes will be installed.
Maximum pressure of at least 175 PSI.
Maximum continuous flow of at least 75 SCFM @ 175 PSI through a looped air distribution system. See Looped Air Distribution System Diagram.
This proposed loop will not run through bathrooms or offices. This will eliminate the need for false walls (chase) as well as the need to paint exposed pipes.
Adhesive "Compressed Air" labels should be applied to all exposed piping at roughly 20 ft. intervals. The loop system would also prevent pressure fluctuations, during times when multiple training devices are in use at the same time.
The lines will be copper type L or type K with brazed fittings. Steel or iron pipe with threaded connections is acceptable. Compression type fittings are not allowed. Ideally, pipe should be run in a looped-air distribution system, to avoid pressure drops when multiple training devices are in use at one time.
The use of ¾ inch lines will support 10 SCFM or more at 125 PSI. Recommended pipe sizes:
- 1.5 inches from compressor to wall penetration
- 1 inch for loop piping
- 3/4 inch for service lines to each training bay/room
Electrical: The primary voltage in the building is 480/277V to include Panel M1.
Electrical conduit for air compressor is routed back to Panel “M1” located in Electrical Room 137. Room 137 shares a wall with Room 122 (Mechanical Room/ compressor location). M1 manufacturer is an Eaton NEMA Type-1 EZBP2072R.
The schedule for M1 is on IFC Drawing Sheet E-612 (attached).
Compressor location:
Room 122, Mechanical Room. Installing compressor in this room eliminates noise concerns related to adjacent training rooms and offices, as well as the need for soundproofing. Room 122 has sufficient airflow and vents to allow exhaust air from the compressor to dissipate.
Distribution path:
Support for 3 drops in Room 128 (D2, D3, D4 - FDAT Room)
Support for 1 drop in Room 108 (D9 - Depot Room)
Support for 1 drop in Room 122 (D1 - Mechanical Room)
Support for 1 drop each in Rooms 123 & 135 (D7-FCT Room, D8-ART Room) through shared wall
Support for 1 drop each in Rooms 132 & 134 (D5-LGT Room, D6 - EAPU Room) through shared wall. D5 & D6 can come off the same service line.
Where piping must cross hallways 100B & 100D, it will be installed above the T-bar ceiling. In high-bay training rooms (123, 128, 132, 134, 135), Mechanical Room (122) & Depot Room (108), piping should enter & exit walls via appropriate location so as not to interfere with existing piping, conduit, etc. Piping for drops should be mounted to the wall, 4 to 4.5 feet above the floor, with fittings running parallel to the wall and not perpendicular. See attached Air Fittings photo.
"Compressed Air" labels should be applied to all piping at roughly 20 ft intervals.
See attached Architectural Floor Plan Drawings A-541 and A-122 for ceiling details.
Standard air coupler for an air hose to plug into should be used.
Isolator Valves should be used.
Seal and fire-block all wall penetrations.
Compressor mounting, distribution system and drops in conformance with ASME Standard EA-4-2008 and conforming with California Administrative Code Title 8.
Contractor is responsible to remove and reinstall the T-bar ceiling tiles in performance of the scope.
