About this file
This is a Requests for Information (RFI) document for a custom command shield sign project. Seven inquiries were submitted between June 24-29, 2026, with responses provided by July 1, 2026.
The RFI addresses material specifications, design configuration, and installation requirements for the sign. Materials are restricted to aluminum, acrylic, Matthews paint (PPG), and UL-listed LED components. The sign comprises three main elements—a primary cabinet, spunky cabinet, and stars—with hollow aluminum fabricated sections backed by acrylic that house LED components. All design components will be produced from fully vectored files (.dxf, .x_t, .stp, or .stl formats) and delivered to specified dimensions per approved production proof. The sign weighs approximately 150 pounds and will be mounted to wall studs behind drywall using two extruded aluminum cleats, each 4 feet long with at least three anchor points per cleat. Electrical requirements specify a direct plug connection to a 110V outlet located directly behind the sign installation point, with compliance to NFPA 70. Lighting will be halo-illuminated throughout each lit layer (base layer, spunky cabinet, and individual stars), with acrylic push-through components allowing the globe to glow outward. To accommodate halo illumination, the sign must be mounted at least 1.5 inches from the wall to allow for perimeter glow. Transport feasibility was noted as a concern contingent on confirming the assembled sign's ability to fit through doorways between the parking lot and installation wall.

1 24-Jun-26 24-Jun-26 Does the customer perfer or wish to restrict materials/ material selection?
Yes. Aluminum, acrylic, Matthews paint
(PPG), UL Listed LED components 29-Jun-26
2 24-Jun-26 24-Jun-26 Is the sign required to be solid material throughout or can internal spaces be hollowed with no negative perceived effect to external visuals?
The parts of the sign that are "cabinets" are hollow aluminum fabricated elements that are backed with acrylic. The LED components live inside of these elements.

3 24-Jun-26 24-Jun-26 Can the individual layers of the sign (i.e. Element 1, or Element 2, etc.) be broken down into multiple components for ease of transport? In final assembled condition, the multiple components will present visually as cohesive panels free of separation.
Yes. There are 3 main elements of the sign -primary cabinet, spunky cabinet, stars. The remainder of the fabricated sign is permanently bonded. We believe it can transport & install this sign full assembled. The initial concern for transport would be to confirm that this sign will fit through all the door ways between the parking lot and the wall it will be installed on.

4 24-Jun-26 24-Jun-26 Can .dxf, .x_t, .stp, or .stl files be provided for all sign elements/ layers, in addition to Elements 8, 10, and 11? This is requested for dimensional compliance of final sign.
Yes, every part of this design will be created from fully vectored files, and produced to the size(s) noted on the approved production proof.

5 24-Jun-26 24-Jun-26 Is there a weight requirement for the sign to enable the substrate/ parent mounting material to support the requested french cleats? Is the sign being mounted to a wall of cinder block/ concrete, plaster/drywall and wooden studs, or metal studs?
We anticipate this sign weighing around 150lbs.
Cleat mount this to the studs behind the drywall. Recommend having 2 extruded aluminum cleats that are 4 feet long (each).
Each length of cleat will have at least 3 anchor points where the load is transferred thru the drywall and into the studs.

Is the sign LEDs expected to be hard-wired into an existing 110V junction? Or must the sign be wired with a single removeable plug? If the latter, how long must the cord be to reach the outlet? Is the switch expected to be near the plug, on the wire, or on the sign material itself?
Is the customer requesting an electrical inspection and Certificate of Compliance; or that the vendor simply comply with NFPA 70?
For electrical connection - we intend to plug this into the outlet directly behind this sign

“I do have a question about the lighting – where is that being housed? In layer one? Is this intended to be a “halo” compass?
I see the responses to questions and wanted to call out if this is mounted with cleats/studs. IF this is halo illuminated the signage needs to be off the wall at least 1.5” to allow for the perimeter glow of the lights.”
Lighting is being housed in each lit layer, so the base layer, and then also behind the spunky, and each of the individual stars. Each of those will be halo lit, and then the globe will be acrylic push through and glow out the face.
