The opportunity involves installing poured in place surfacing and shades on existing posts at a playground. The contractor will be responsible for meeting all specifications and code requirements, and adjusting any non-compliant post locations. 1) Will the poured in place surfacing be a 50/50 blend of black and color, or will it be solid color?
This will be part of the color selection for the poured in place surface and will be determined based on price and user preference.
2) Will the red shades attaching to the existing posts be greater than 84” above the designated play surface on the structure to comply with ASTM F1487-21 8.14.1?
Contractor will be responsible for meeting required specifications and providing alternative options if needed. Since there were triangular shades installed previously, it is believed that there should be ample clearance above the play surface to comply with the required code and standard.
3) If anchor points on existing shade posts do not comply with ASTM F1487-21 8.14.1, and need to be moved, will owner provide engineering for the new anchor points and welds? If not owner provided what will be the acceptable process to engineer new anchor points?
If it is determined from the site investigations that any part of this project does not meet a code or codes, it shall be in the contractors bid proposal to design/build.
4) From the drawing, it appears that some of the post locations for the blue and green shades may be encroaching on the 72” use zones of the structures they are intended to shade. Please advise how to address if this is the case.
All post locations on the SOW drawings are approximate locations and used for a visual representation.
While the images are to scale, the graphics showing the work to be done are not exactly to scale and should be used as a guideline for the work to be done. If post locations do not meet the 72” use zones, they will be adjusted. The locations will be part of the required drawings and will be addressed.
5) Contract is for 90 days from NTP. Shade manufacturers are currently giving lead times of 6-12 weeks. What, if any, extensions will be given to contractors delayed by manufacturing delays beyond their control?
If there are long lead times anticipated for equipment, then incorporate that into the period of performance proposal and annotate as such.
