About this file

This is a memorandum reporting mold survey results for Building 559 at Patrick Space Force Base, conducted by the NASA Environmental and Medical Contract (NEMCON) on behalf of the United States Space Force Space Launch Delta 45.

The comprehensive fungal analysis, completed on November 19, 2025, assessed indoor mold levels using a Zefon Bio-Pump Plus air sampling device calibrated to 15 liters per minute. Multiple rooms throughout Building 559 were surveyed, including Conference Room 100, Rooms 201, 208, 101, and an outdoor comparison sample, with testing performed on November 14, 2025. Results indicated that indoor mold levels were generally lower than outdoor levels, with none of the sampled areas exceeding ten times outdoor levels—the established threshold for concern. Detected fungal spores included Alternaria, Ascospores, Aspergillus/Penicillium, Basidiospores, Cladosporium, Curvularia, Epicoccum, Fusarium, Myxomycetes, and Pithomyces, at concentrations ranging from 60.0 to 273.3 count/m³ across indoor samples and 746.7 count/m³ in the outdoor sample. A separate Agar Plate test is pending with results expected within 2–3 weeks. The complete laboratory analysis from the KSC Environmental Microbiology Laboratory is available for review at the Bioenviromental Engineering Flight office, Building 1366, Patrick Space Force Base, Florida, with inquiries directed to (321) 494-5435 or usaf.patrick.45sw-mdg.mbx.bioenvironmental-engineering-flight@health.mil.

DEPARTMENT OF THE AIR FORCE

UNITED STATES SPACE FORCE

SPACE LAUNCH DELTA 45

2 December 2025 MEMORANDUM FOR First Air Force, Detachment 3

FROM: 45 OMRS/SGXB

SUBJECT: Mold Survey Results for Bldg. 559

BLUF: A comprehensive fungal analysis of Bldg. 559, conducted by NASA Environmental and Medical Contract (NEMCON), found indoor mold levels to be within acceptable parameters.

1. BACKROUND: NEMCON conducted mold sampling in Bldg. 559 to determine if any areas exceeded recommended comfort levels. While no regulatory limits exist, indoor levels exceeding ten times outdoor levels would be a cause for concern. The goal of this assessment is to support effective health risk management and help provide a work environment that meets recommended comfort parameters.

2. ASSESSMENT: NEMCON surveyed the building using a Zefon Bio-Pump Plus (ZBP-205, Serial 07988), calibrated to 15 LPM, to assess and quantify the total concentration and speciation of airborne fungal spores. This sampling method detects both live and dead mold spores, providing a comprehensive analysis of fungal presence. Multiple rooms throughout Building 559 were sampled.

3. RESULTS: Indoor mold levels were generally lower than outdoor levels, as expected. While some variation existed between rooms, none of the sampled areas had indoor levels exceeding ten times outdoor levels. See Attachment 1 for the complete laboratory analysis. A separate Agar Plate test has also been conducted; those results are expected in 2-3 weeks and will be provided in a separate memorandum.

4. INFO: Mold is common and tends to proliferate in warm, humid environments. Individual responses to mold exposure vary; some individuals sensitive to mold may experience allergy-like symptoms, while those with weakened immune systems are more susceptible to respiratory issues.

5. We look forward to working with you to ensure workers are safe and healthy while completing the mission. Copies of this report and applicable supporting documentation are available for your review in our office, building 1366, during business hours. If you have any questions or concerns about this report, please contact BE at (321) 494-5435 (DSN 854) or usaf.patrick.45sw-mdg.mbx.bioenvironmental-engineering-flight@health.mil.

Field Notes:

• Air samples were collected using a Zefon Bio-Pump Plus (ZBP-205, Serial 07988) verified at 15/LPM.

• (AoC-4) RM 101 windows were open upon arrival and closed about an hour prior to sampling.

High levels of background particulate can obscure spores and other particulates leading to underestimation. Background levels of

5 indicate an overloading of background particulates, prohibiting accurate detection and quantification.

(*Present) = Spores were observed but could not be enumerated due to high background interference.

Identifications were performed at a magnification of 400X. Due to method stopping rules, raw counts more than 200 are extrapolated based on the percentage of trace analyzed. Results are not blank corrected unless otherwise noted.

The minimum detection limit is equal to one fungal spore. Counts/m3 were calculated based on the total volume sampled. Results were rounded to the nearest 0.1 cfu/m3.

( -- ) = Spore Type was not observed in the sample. Not Detected.

KSCEML bears no responsibility for sample collection activities or analytical method limitations. Interpretation and use of test results are the responsibility of the client. Samples were received in good condition unless otherwise noted.
