About this file
This is a site visit notes and questions document for a synthetic turf installation project. The project involves installing synthetic turf in two separate areas, each measuring 5 yards by 36 yards (180 square yards each, 360 total square yards), positioned on either side of existing equipment. The turf is intended exclusively for Space Force physical training activities including sled pushes/pulls, carries, acceleration/deceleration exercises, and change of direction drills, with only incidental weight dropping expected.
The project has a 60-day Award and Recognition Office (ARO) timeline and requires compliance with specific height requirements of 3/4"-1.5" pile height plus less than 1/2" underlay. Key installation specifications include appropriate safety transitions around the perimeter to existing concrete/rubber mats, incorporation of the Space Force logo (not Air Force), distance marking lines along the turf, and accommodation for existing pull-up bars on the west side that will remain in place. The turf will be set back from the container to allow continued use of the pull-up bars while trainees remain on concrete, and no additional thickness is required since this is not intended for sports activities.

Site Visit Notes and Questions – Turf and Install
1. What are the total dimensions of the areas where we need to install the synthetic turf? 2.1.1. States that the dimensions are 5 yards wide by 36 yards long (total of 360 square yards per area), but 5x36=180, not 360 per area.
a. Two separate areas of 5ydx36yd, one on either side of the existing equipment. 180 square yards each, 360 total. Acknowledged that the SOW language is confusing.
2. Can you please confirm the intended functional use of these synthetic turf areas (e.g., physical training lanes, sled drills, sports activity zones)?
a. No sports activity zones, this is entirely intended for physical training.
Typical uses will be sled pushes/pulls, carries, acceleration/deceleration/change of direction, and only incidental dropping of weight (not frequent/intended).
3. What is the ARO?
a. 60-day ARO
4. How tall can the turf be above ground?
a. The height must comply with SOW (3/4”-1.5” pile + <1/2” underlay. The height must accommodate appropriate transitions around the perimeter of the turf to address safety considerations with the transition to existing concrete/rubber mats.
5. Is there a need for the Air Force logo to be applied?
a. Not the Air Force logo, but yes for the Space Force logo.
6. Are the blue lines going in one direction?
a. Lines are only needed to mark distance along the turf.
7. Are the pull-up bars staying?
a. Yes. The rack/pull up bar on the west side of the existing equipment will remain in place. The turf will not go under the rack, it will be set back from the container far enough for trainees to use that bar while still on concrete.
8. does there need to be extra thickness for sports activities?
a. No.
