STANDARD DEFINITIONS

Flammables/Combustibles: Capable of being set on fire and of burning quickly or able to be burned easily. Specific/Average Temp Requirements:

Solvents: Substance, ordinarily a liquid, in which other materials dissolve to form a solution. Polar solvents (e.g., water) favor formation of ions; nonpolar ones (e.g., hydrocarbons) do not. Solvents may be predominantly acidic, predominantly basic, amphoteric (both), or aprotic (neither). Organic compounds used as solvents include aromatic compounds and other hydrocarbons, alcohols, ethers, ketones, amines, and nitrated and halogenated hydrocarbons. Their chief uses are as media for chemical syntheses, as industrial cleaners, in extractive processes, in pharmaceuticals, in inks, and in paints, varnishes, and lacquers.

Paints: A liquid that dries to form a thin colored layer when it is spread on a surface. Decorative and protective coating commonly applied to rigid surfaces as a liquid consisting of a pigment suspended in a vehicle, or binder. The vehicle, usually a resin dissolved in a solvent, dries to a tough film, binding the pigment to the surface.

Corrosives/Caustics: Causing damage to metal or other materials through a chemical process. Capable of destroying or eating away by chemical action: corrosive.

Gases: One of the three fundamental states of matter, in which matter has no definite shape, is very fluid, and has a density about 0.1% that of liquids. Gas is very compressible but tends to expand indefinitely, and it fills any container. A substance (such as oxygen or hydrogen) that is like air and has no fixed shape, a gas or mixture of gases that is burned as a fuel. Specific/Average Temp Requirements:

Pesticides: Any toxic substance used to kill animals or plants that damage crops or ornamental plants or that are hazardous to the health of domestic animals or humans. All pesticides act by interfering with the target species' normal metabolism. They are often classified by the type of organism they are intended to control (e.g., insecticide, herbicide, and Fungicide).

Poisons: Any substance (natural or synthetic) that, at a certain dosage, damages living tissues and injures or kills.
