113 Please provide the bid forms B.3.1, B.4, and B.5 separate from the

RFP.

Please see attached.

114 Please reference B.4 Options on page 31 of the RFP. This section indicates that all options are adds. Please confirm that Option 2 is a deduct not an add.

Deducts.

115 The RFP states a maximum page limit of 50 double-sided pages. In order to competitively bid the project, we will solicit bids from multiple subcontractors for each scope of work. If we submit a minimum of three subcontractors for each of the 18 scopes, it would result in nearly half of our proposal being subcontractor listings.

Additionally, in a hard bid procurement, bid submissions from subcontractors may not be received until 10-15 minutes prior to the

RFP bid deadline.

a. Can the subcontractor listings be submitted as an appendix and omitted from the page count?

b. Can the subcontractor listing be submitted electronically by 5 PM

EST on bid day with a hardcopy to follow within 24-hours?

a) Yes; b) Yes.

116 Based on the timing of the second site visit and to allow for adequate review and preparation:

a. Please allow a one (1) week extension on RFI submissions.

b. Please allow a one (1) week extension on RFP submissions.

117 The RFP mentions peak and off-peak visitor seasons. Please provide the timeframes for peak and off-peak seasons.

Peak visitor season is March 15 – Sept 30; Off-peak visitor season is Oct 1 - March 14. Based upon the location of the project and construction access limited through the Hawthorn Street Gate, SI does not expect Zoo special events and public crowds to impact construction operations prior to substantial completion.

118 Please confirm all bird feces will be removed from the existing facility prior to turnover to the contractor for construction.

Once the building is unoccupied and turned over for construction, any bird feces related health concerns will be assessed and addressed by SI. For bids, Contractor to assume building meets

OSHA safety standards without requiring hazard control measures.

119 Per spec section 018113.13 Sustainable Design Requirements this project is intended to submit for LEED Gold certification based on the

2009 LEED credit system. To our knowledge you can no longer submit under LEED 2009 unless this project was registered with USGBC before 10/31/16. At this time LEED V4 would be the appropriate certification system. Please clarify the LEED goals for this project and update the scorecard provided as well as other specification section references to the outdated 2009 credits.

This project was registered under LEED 2009 prior to the deadline.

120 Please provide mix design information or photographs of samples for the terrazzo aggregates in the TZ-1 – TZ-4 terrazzo color selections.

RESPONSES TO BIDDER QUESTIONS, RFP Solicitation No. F18R010034 Page 7 of 8

123 In the solicitation part L.1C we are required to name certain subcontractors and provide qualification information. Because this is a cost-competitive award, typically we do not know which subcontractors we will be using until we receive their pricing on bid day when we can make our selections by balancing qualifications and price. A lot of this happens shortly before the bid is due, and usually there are subcontractors who are cost-competitive but who have not yet provided qualification information at the time of bid. In order to react to this inevitable event, we either quickly produce qualification information under pressure of submitting a responsive bid on time

(including printing new qualifications on site at the place the bid is due), or sometimes we decide that even though the subcontractor is cost-competitive we cannot produce adequate qualification information and we don’t include them in our bid. We request that SI allow the list of subcontractors and their qualification to be submitted separate from the bid 48 hr. after the initial submission.

This will allow bidders to separate the subcontractor selection process critical for competitive bidding from the distraction of creating or modifying qualifications packages at the last minute.

Please see RFI 56.

124 Spec section 042200, 1.2 B, #2 refers to a related section 071900

“Water Repellents”. This spec section (071900) is not part of the specifications provided. Please provide this specification section.

The reference to 071900 does not apply to this project and will be removed in an updated specification provided to the successful bidder.

125 Please confirm intent for removal and replacement of sheds/run enclosure in area B4. Is it acceptable to disassemble/store/reassemble the structures? If so can they be stored temporarily in one of the unoccupied enclosures? If they must be demolished and replaced with new please provide specification for replacement.

See response to RFI #16. In addition, yes, it is acceptable to disassemble/store/reassemble the structures. Bids are to reflect that Contractors will not be able to store sheds in one of the unoccupied enclosures. All materials must remain within the construction Limits of Work or stored off site.

(10) Only tests that are performed by (not just witnessed by) independent testing agencies will give a true indication of expected performace, since they are the only tests that are guaranteed to be conducted on random production line samples.

A roller strike reduces friction ensuring positive latching. It also reduces the force necessary to latch and unlatch the door.

Deadlatching prevents latchbolt manipulation, resulting in greater security.

Compression springs are less likely to suffer from metal fatigue than torsion or tension springs. The use of two compression springs per trim is even less likely to fail, and will maintain more consistent tension through its life cycle.

Forged escutcheons are much more durable than cast or wrought.

Security trim greatly reduces the ability to force entry by the use of break-away lever trim.

Hydraulic sound dampening eliminates noises associated with touchpad operation.

REQUEST FOR APPROVAL

Aluminum extrusion is much stronger than stainless steel roll form.

A die-cast flush mounted and sloped end cap will deflect impact and prevent the end cap from being damaged or torn off. Stamped, overlapping end caps are industry-standard, and are prone to

Plastic parts used for the Touchpad, End Cap, Dogging Mechanism, or Latch Retraction can compromise safety, security, lifespan, and aesthetics of the exit device.

* LIFETIME warranty does NOT cover "ordinary wear and tear"

* Stanley Limited lifetime warranty covers manufacturing defects at the the "sole discretion of Stanley", and does not cover wear and tear.

There are three forms of cycle testing (as described below). Because of potential variance in testing standards, only testing results performed by independent testing labs on randonly selected devices are used in this comparison, as it gives the most accurate indication of "real-world" performance.

- Internally Tested: Manufacturer tests their own selected product according to their own testing standards.

- Witnessed by Independent: Manufacturer tests their own selected product. Independent testing lab verifies the testing procedures only. As the manufacturer hand selects the test subject, this may not be an accurate representation of typical product quality.

- Independently Tested: Independent lab tests randomly selected product according to independently accepted testing standards. This testing most accurately represents typical performance that can be expected from the item product.

Double heat treated pinions are harder than single heat treated, and offer superior protection against wear and abuse.

A pressure relief valve (PRV) is designed to protect the door closer from damage, and sacrifices safety in the process. In abusive situations the closer releases control of the door, allowing it to swing freely and uncontrolled, thus increasing the risk of personal injury.

Full compliment needle bearings provide 33% greater surface area than caged bearings, resulting in longer closer life and an increased ability to withstand abuse.

Powder coating provides superior protection against the effects of corrosion and weathering, and provides a durable, chip resistant finish.

All-weather fluid requires less seasonal adjustments as the fluid maintains a stable viscosity throughout a wide temperature range.

ANSI cycle testing requirements as follows: 2 Million cycles for Grade 1, 1 Million cycles for Grade 2, and 500,000 cycles for Grade 3

Cast iron is superior to aluminum body closers due to strength and longevity, and it wears better with a forged steel piston.

A larger piston / cylinder reduces the amount of hydraulic pressure per square inch in operation, reducing the occurance of damage and leaking.

Proposed Manufacturer/ Product: Concord Terrazzo Co., Inc./ Terrazzco Brand Products Reasons for not using specified items

• TERRAZZCO® Epoxy Resin Matrix has yielded test results that comply and exceed the NTMA guidelines.

o Utilizing Terrazzco EZpour will provide the owner with an equal or superior product when compared to terrazzo system currently specified with the opportunity to save up to 15% on the price material.

• TERRAZZCO® Epoxy Resin incorporates rapidly renewable materials.

o Other products on the market do not.

o There are more LEED credits possible if LEED certification is being sought.

o There will be better quality control than having to outsource the precast fabrication to another manufacturer.

o There will be less lead time required for fabrication.

o The precast epoxy terrazzo product will match the poured-in-place floor since both the floor and precast will be fabricated from the same material.

o All materials would be coming from one central source.

• There will be more competition during the bid process.

o Approval of another manufacturer during the bid process will cause more competition in pricing of materials.

• There is possible expedition of schedule due to close proximity of proposed manufacturer.

DESCRIPTION

TERRAZZCO® EZpour Epoxy 158 is a pigmented, 100% solid (VOC free), two-component epoxy resin system. When combined with an extensive variety of decorative aggregates and poured in place to 1/4” or 3/8” nominal thickness, it yields a highly decorative terrazzo flooring system. TERRAZZCO® EZpour

Epoxy 158 provides incredible sustainability and high resistance to wearing while also being resistant to bacterial growth. The product also has the lowest life cycle cost of any flooring system available. Crack-resistant installations of

TERRAZZCO® EZpour Epoxy 158 can be achieved when installed in conjunction with a TERRAZZCO® moisture vapor mitigation MMS 950 and flexible membrane FM 528. This epoxy resin system contains rapidly renewable raw materials, derived from a proprietary soy-based formula.

ADVANTAGES

Rev. 05/10/16

Measurements must be made using Wagner Electronics Rapid RH® 4.0 Smart Sensor and Rapid RH® Easy Reader.

RH reading below 75% do not require the application of a vapor moisture mitigation system. 75% or higher requires the use of Moisture Mitigation System MMS 950. A record sheet should be filled out that includes the ambient temperature and humidity during testing along with the substrate temperature and relative humidity. The test must be conducted at end user environmental conditions. Any deviation from this procedure will result in the warranty being voided.
